The Rock and Roll Big Night of Giving: An Evening of Music, Food, and Generosity

MORRIS COUNTY — Join for a night of unforgettable entertainment and community giving at The Rock and Roll Big Night of Giving, an event dedicated to supporting The Molly Mack GoFundMe Page, Michael Spiaggia, and disaster relief efforts for recent hurricane-devastated areas.

This charitable evening takes place at the Ukrainian American Cultural Center, located at 60 N. Jefferson Road, Whippany, on Friday, November 15, 2024. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and festivities run from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Admission is only $15.00 and includes both live entertainment and a fantastic selection of food.

Event Partners
The event is made possible through the collaboration of local communities, including East Hanover, Florham Park, Hanover Township, Morris Plains, Morristown, Morris Township, and Parsippany, with vital support from the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, the Whippany/Cedar Knolls Fire Departments, and The 200 Club of Morris County.

Food and Entertainment
Generous food donations have been provided by Colliers Engineering, The Godfather, Sorrento Bakery, CJ’s Deli, and the Ukrainian American Cultural Center, ensuring an evening full of delicious options.

Guests will be treated to a vibrant lineup of musical entertainment featuring The Commissioners, a band led by talented musicians John Desena, Dan Gallagher, Michael Cifelli, Kevin Hummel, and Tom “Ace” Gallagher on drums.

Additionally, DJ Nader will keep the energy high throughout the night, and Sharon’s Studio of Dance & Music Break Dancers will make a special appearance, bringing their unique talent to the stage.

All proceeds and donations will go directly to the causes and communities in need. Attendees are encouraged to bring essential items to support hurricane-impacted areas. Items especially in demand include:

  • Water, canned and boxed food, and baby formula
  • Hygiene products such as deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, and hand soap
  • Towels, baby wipes, toilet paper, and paper towels
  • First aid kits, cleaning supplies, disinfectant wipes, rags, sponges, and shop vacuums

For off-duty officers, it’s a great time to catch up with friends, family and colleagues.

Parsippany PBA 131 is the local chapter of the Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) in Parsippany-Troy Hills. It represents the interests of local law enforcement officers, advocating for their rights, benefits, and working conditions.

Like other PBA chapters, Parsippany PBA 131 is involved in community outreach and fundraising activities, supporting local initiatives and charitable causes.

Events such as their Annual Cigar Night help raise funds to support various charitable endeavors and strengthen connections between the police force and the community they serve.

PARSIPPANY — The Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Council has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday, November 12, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will occur in the Council Chambers at 1001 Parsippany Boulevard within the Parsippany Municipal Building.

Formal action may or may not be taken.

Morris County Vocational School District Celebrates 25Years of the Dance Program and 55 Years of Educational Excellence

MORRIS COUNTY — This year marks two significant milestones for the Morris County Vocational School District (MCVSD): the 25th anniversary of its Dance Program and the 55th anniversary of the district’s inception in 1969.

From its origins as a traditional vocational school, MCVSD has evolved through the years into a leading district providing career and technical education across a broad range of fields. “These two significant milestones highlight the district’s ongoing commitment to innovation, excellence, and expanding opportunities for students in Morris County,” said Shari Castelli, Acting Superintendent of the MCVSD. 

The Academy for Performing Arts, which includes the Dance Program, offers students opportunities to work with master teachers and professional choreographers. The program has produced alumni who are performers, choreographers, and dance educators, among other professions. The annual dance performance has become a showcase event, highlighting students’ talents and growth as artists. 

In honor of the Dance Program’s 25th Anniversary, the program will host a special performance on January 18, 2025, at the County College of Morris. This celebratory event will feature a unique blend of current students, alumni, educational partners, and industry professionals. Lisa Peluso, Teacher of Dance, will choreograph a piece for alumni, and current students will perform pieces choreographed by professional alumni.

With the County College of Morris as a supportive partner, the celebration will also feature alumni who will present their own work at the concert, and professional dance companies, each employing alumni, highlighting MCVSD’s impact on the dance community. Additionally, County College of Morris’s Coordinator of Dance, Professor Terence Duncan, will collaborate with the Academy of Dance seniors to create a work as part of their Choreography I course taken at County College of Morris.  

“I am thrilled to celebrate 25 years of the dance program! I had the privilege of being a guest instructor in the program’s early years, and for the past decade, I’ve had the honor of leading it as the director. Watching our students grow, find their voice, and pursue remarkable careers, in the arts or other fields they’re passionate about, has been inspiring and shows the impact of an arts education, ” said Lisa Peluso, Teacher of Dance. 

The 25th Anniversary Dance Performance will bring together the program’s past and present. When tickets are available for the January 18th performance they will be sold on the school website.

With 55 years dedicated to career and technical education and 25 years of artistic excellence through the Dance Program, Morris County Vocational School District continues to educate students, nurturing their passions, and equipping them with valuable career readiness skills in preparation for college and careers.  

8th grade students interested in Dance or Musical Theatre may apply to the Academy for Performing Arts through the online application until November 18th. 

An academy program of the Morris County Vocational School District (MCVSD) provides students in grades nine through twelve in-depth instruction in a specific career pathway. Students attend the academy program instead of their local high school unless the academy program is housed in their local high school. Students take their academy class each year along with the NJ State Department of Education’s academic requirements. All academy students receive a high school diploma from the Morris County Vocational School District, regardless of their academy location. Each academy has a unique academy course sequence and opportunities for internships and earning college credit. 

Morris County Vocational School District (MCVSD) offers a wide range of career and technical education programs that inspire and prepare students to succeed in today’s world and pursue tomorrow’s opportunities. I Love Sai Organization: A Beacon of Compassion and Community Service

I Love Sai donates enough food for 2,100 meals—including rice, lentils, and chickpeas—to Nourish.NJ in Morristown. On August 6, 2024, volunteers delivered the supplies, helping to feed local families in need.

PARSIPPANY — Since February 15, 2020, I Love Sai, a volunteer-driven charitable organization rooted in the practices and teachings of Shirdi Sai Baba—a revered spiritual master known for his message of love, unity, and compassion—has been making an impact in Parsippany and its neighboring communities. Shirdi Sai Baba’s teachings transcend all religions, inspiring millions to embrace faith, patience, and the oneness of humanity. While the organization had a humble beginning at a couple of temporary locations on Route 46, since April 2024, the organization is rendering its services from its permanent location at 364 Parsippany Road.

Serving with Love and Humility

At the heart of I Love Sai’s mission is the desire to humbly and compassionately serve those most in need. Over the past four years, thanks to the dedication and hard work of several volunteers, over 275,000 meals and food provisions have been distributed to local shelters, food pantries, and soup kitchens. The partnerships with organizations such as the Parsippany Food Pantry, Hoboken Shelter, and Nourish NJ Soup Kitchen in Morris Plains have helped I Love Sai to ensure that individuals and families facing hardship receive the nourishment they need. I Love Sai recognizes that nourishment is more than just feeding the body; and it is about sharing care and dignity with every meal, helping to foster hope and a sense of belonging for those the organization serves. The event offered a safe, family-friendly environment for children to enjoy trick-or-treating, games, and other spooky activities.

Parsippany Hills High School Key Club created a festive pumpkin patch for the “Halloween at the Hills” event, adding an extra touch of fall fun for families and children to enjoy. The pumpkin patch provided a perfect spot for photos and added to the seasonal atmosphere, making the evening even more memorable for the community.
Children of all ages enjoyed the festivities at Parsippany Hills High School’s “Halloween at the Hills” event, where they explored the pumpkin patch, collected treats, and participated in games. Organized by students and staff, this much-anticipated tradition had become a favorite in the local community. Children were invited to come dressed in their favorite costumes and enjoy an evening filled with candy, laughter, and excitement. The high school was decorated for Halloween, creating a festive backdrop as kids collected treats and took part in the Halloween fun.

Donations were directed to the Interfaith Food Pantry, thanks to the efforts of the high school’s Interact Club, ensuring that the spirit of giving was as much a part of the event as the spirit of Halloween.

Aerotek Signs 18,000-Square-Foot Lease at Arbors Office Campus

PARSIPPANY — ABS Management has successfully secured an 18,339-square-foot lease with Aerotek, a publicly traded staffing company, at 8 Campus Drive. The property is part of the two-building office complex known as The Arbors, which includes both 8 Campus Drive and 7 Sylvan Way. Aerotek, which specializes in providing outsourced staffing services in fields such as construction, manufacturing, and maintenance, will be occupying a fourth-floor suite at the property as part of its ongoing expansion strategy.

The lease agreement was brokered by JLL, with a team comprising Senior Managing Director David Stifelman, Executive Vice President Chris Conklin, and Brokerage Coordinator Maria Ruberto representing ABS Management, the landlord. On behalf of Aerotek, tenant representatives Brian DeCillis and Ryan O’Keefe from Cushman & Wakefield assisted in the transaction, ensuring a smooth negotiation process.

“As Chairman of Parsippany-Troy Hills Economic Development, I am thrilled to welcome these outstanding businesses to our community,” said Frank Cahill. “Their presence not only strengthens our local economy but also enriches Parsippany as a vibrant center for innovation, collaboration, and growth. The Arbors campus spans 360,000 square feet across 15 acres, offering high-quality office space with a variety of modern amenities. Recent upgrades at 8 Campus Drive include a redesigned lobby, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a virtual golf simulator, a conference and training facility, and a full-service café. These improvements enhance the workspace experience, providing tenants with a comfortable, well-equipped environment. The property’s strategic location near major transportation routes—including Interstates 80, 280, 287, and Routes 46, 202, 10, and 53—further adds to its appeal. Murphy Administration Allocates $20 Million for Local Recreation Improvements Across NJ

MORRIS COUNTY — The state Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Division of Local Government Services (DLGS) is accepting applications from counties, municipalities, and school districts for Local Recreation Improvement Grant (LRIG) Program funding.

The Murphy Administration allocated $20 million in the Fiscal Year 2025 state budget to this competitive grant program, which is now in its fifth year supporting the improvement and repair of public recreation facilities including local parks, municipal recreation centers, and local stadiums.

LRIG funds will be awarded to successful grant applicants to help cover costs associated with updating community centers, playgrounds, pools, fields, walking or bicycle trails, rail trails, multi-sport courts, and recreational facilities; one-time personnel costs directly related to improvements; project development professional services costs; equipment costs including playground and recreation facilities equipment; and environmental remediation costs required to prepare recreation sites for use.

New Jersey counties, municipalities, and school districts are eligible to apply.

To qualify for LRIG funding, applicants must:

• Describe the intended use of grant funding for the improvement or repair of a specific local recreation site and identify any previously encountered obstacles to repair or improve the space.
• Demonstrate their capacity to complete the proposed project and provide project management and oversight for all activities and fiscal operations.
• List key personnel and/or consultants who will be managing the grant funds and proposed project.
• Provide a cost breakdown of the project.
• Submit a governing body resolution acknowledging and approving any grant application and the proposed plan or design for the recreation space or community facility for which funding is sought.\

MORRIS COUNTY — Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) is launching her fourth annual “Thanksgiving Thank Yous” program to collect notes of appreciation for local veterans. The cards will be distributed to veterans throughout the area to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. 

“As we spend time this holiday season remembering all we are grateful for, the Thanksgiving Thank You program is a wonderful opportunity to remind our veterans that our community appreciates their tremendous service and sacrifice,” said Rep. Sherrill. “I hope that all NJ-11 residents, especially students, will participate for another year of recognizing our veterans!”

Residents are invited to drop off or mail their cards and notes to Rep. Sherrill’s District Office in Livingston, starting Thursday, October 31, through Monday, November 18, 2024. Cards submitted in envelopes should not be sealed or closed unless mailed to the District Office. Making Strides: Parsippany’s Annual Walk Raises Hope and $347,594 for Breast Cancer Fight

PARSIPPANY — The 28th Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Parsippany brought together over 6,000 walkers at the Century Office Campus to unite against breast cancer. Held at 4 Century Drive, this year’s event was a powerful demonstration of community support, raising an impressive $347,594. With participants from local teams, companies, schools, and individuals, each person played a role in advancing the goal to end breast cancer as we know it.

Making Strides is recognized as the nation’s largest and most impactful movement focused on ending breast cancer. Funds raised through events like these allow the American Cancer Society to fuel life-saving research, boost education and awareness about prevention, and provide essential support for patients and families facing breast cancer.

Apart from skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common cancer type among women. Approximately 313,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, with an additional 56,500 cases of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) expected to be diagnosed in women.

6,000+ Walkers Join Forces in Parsippany to End Breast Cancer

This year’s top team was Rising to the Challenge, which raised an outstanding $24,582, with the top individual participant, Joan Van Soest. Other key teams included The Fighting Champions ($22,540), Hanna’s Bananas Powered by Toyota ($13,014), and THE PINK STRIDERS ($11,024). Local organizations and companies also lent their support, with Atlantic Health Systems raising $17,292, Toyota Motor North America raising $13,014, and Siemens Healthineers raising $9,663. In addition, Parsippany-Troy Hills PBA Local 131 donated $2,500, underscoring the organization’s commitment to the community.

Faith in Action: Church Assists Special Needs Community With New Wheelchair Ramp and Anniversary Party

PARSIPPANY — Rose House, a nonprofit organization committed to creating permanent housing for adults with special needs, was selected by Liquid Church of Parsippany, as a beneficiary of its 2024 Fall Outreach initiative.

In support of this project, Liquid Church constructed a wheelchair ramp and deck at the back of a Rose House group home in Budd Lake, New Jersey as a secondary emergency exit. Building materials for the wheelchair ramp and deck were funded by a generous grant from The Hyde and Watson Foundation of Warren Township, New Jersey.

Additionally, the church hosted a 25th-anniversary celebration for Rose House. This celebration — designed for the special needs residents of Rose House, their families, staff, board members, and esteemed supporters — featured an array of activities, including pumpkin painting, a video game truck, dancing, a magic show, face painting, and various games at Liquid Church’s Parsippany headquarters.

All guests were given Liquid Church’s royal treatment as they were welcomed into the building on a red carpet with volunteers on either side to cheer guests on. In addition, Rose House received commemorative certificates from Senator Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) and Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (D-11) during the event.

Tom Mitchell, CEO of Rose House, remarked, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Liquid Church and its dedicated volunteers for their remarkable support during the Fall Outreach weekend. The feedback from the anniversary party attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are immensely pleased with the beautiful, new wheelchair ramp and deck. Liquid Church’s generosity and commitment to individuals with special needs are truly commendable.”

In recognition of its outstanding support, Liquid Church will soon be awarded the “Golden Rose,” which honors local organizations and businesses that exhibit exceptional dedication to supporting Rose House and its residents with developmental disabilities.

Over the years, the initiative has distributed “thousands of free, deliciously prepared, single-serve Thanksgiving meals,” according to Morrison. PARSIPPANY — The Friends of the Parsippany Library are celebrating a milestone year in 2024 as they mark their 40th anniversary of dedicated service to the community. This all-volunteer, non-profit organization raises essential funds year-round, enhancing events, programs, and resources at the library’s three branches: Main, Lake Hiawatha, and Mt. Tabor.

40 Years of Impact: Friends of the Parsippany Library Reflect on Decades of Giving

Over the years, the Friends have funded a variety of cherished programs, including the Children’s, Teen, and Adult Summer and Winter Reading Programs, Diwali Festivals, Tiny Art Shows, the Seed Library, toys for the Children’s Room, Halloween parties, HiawathaCon, and much more. Their work is powered by member dues, sales proceeds, and donations, all reinvested back into the community.

Fred Preston, President of the Library Board, acknowledges the Friends’ unwavering commitment. “The Friends of the Parsippany Library have been enthusiastic supporters for many years,” he remarked. “Their financial assistance and dedicated service have made a significant impact on our library’s continued growth.”

Members of the Friends take pride in seeing how their efforts benefit Parsippany’s residents. Dear Editor:

Wanted to say that it was inspiring to see the community come together and local businesses like Wall Landscaping and Cerbo Greenhouse with Councilman Musella’s help. When these PILOT developments get finished God only knows who will help them then?

I couldn’t believe Mayor Barberio did not respond to these people who needed his help desperately. I often hear him proclaim “I love this town because I grew up here and deserve to be Mayor”. BUT whenever somebody needs his help or staff’s help they sure do not care. I hear from people and businesses always complaining about how the Mayor never answers emails or returns our calls. He has changed drastically when you are comparing to his first term as Mayor.

I have never written a Letter to the Focus before but I was moved to do this. Two thumbs up for being proactive in assisting residents in the borderline of Denville and Parsippany.

Keep up the excellent work Cerbo, Wall, and Musella!
