Letter to the Editor: Barberio’s Time Management Style

0

Dear Editor:

Mayor Barberio would have you believe that his “being briefed” by persons unknown to us, is the equal of attending a gathering of dozens of mayors regarding the Drone Issue is absurd. Let’s be honest Mr. Mayor, you abandoned your obligation to attend that Drone Conference so you could attend a gathering of Seniors in order to curry favor with a voting block. Pure and simple!

As for the seniors, who are somehow looking forward to your being there and grateful for your attendance, you have overrated your popularity with that demographic. I am a senior, and as a senior, I certainly would have rather seen you at the mayor’s meeting. So please do not presume to speak for all seniors. Perhaps it is possible though not likely you may have even come up with a good question, but we never know, since you weren’t there. These Drone sightings may turn out to be an elaborate prank, but no one knows for sure at this time. The mere fact they are for the most part flying under radar detection should give any responsible leader cause for alarm.

You could have taken your gas-guzzling city-owned SUV and rode in style to a conference you should have attended. As for your implying that Councilman Musella doesn’t care about seniors, it is your incorrect opinion. He is not the one jamming PILOT Programs down the throats of the seniors in Parsippany. You are!

So do the residents of Parsippany a favor and stop campaigning on City Time and the taxpayer’s nickel.

Knights of Columbus Lead Festive Christmas Caroling Event for Seniors

0

PARSIPPANY — The Parsippany Knights of Columbus recently embraced the holiday spirit by caroling at the Calabrese House in Parsippany and Care One, bringing festive joy to residents with a repertoire of classic holiday tunes, including Jingle Bells and O Come All Ye Faithful.

Joining the Knights were Annie and Ben from All Saints Academy, who added their youthful voices to the chorus. Councilman Justin Musella along with Knights members Frank, Mike, and Bill Herman took part in the heartwarming event, filling the halls with music and holiday cheer.

The residents were delighted by the carolers’ visit, with many singing along and sharing smiles. “It was such a meaningful experience to bring joy to the community,” shared one of the Knights. “Seeing the happiness on the residents’ faces reminded us of the true spirit of the holidays.”

The Parsippany Knights of Columbus continue to foster community connections and goodwill through their events, making a difference during this special time of year.

Letter to the Editor: Mayor Barberio, Start Showing Up to the Job!

0

Dear Editor:

As long-time residents of Parsippany, my husband and I, and many other residents of the town, have been concerned about the appearance of numerous drones in our area; thus, it was with dismay that we learned our mayor, who had the opportunity to attend a statewide meeting this week to address the drone issue, decided to skip it. He opted instead to attend a holiday party for seniors. His justification was that they “look forward to my presence” at holiday parties. This cavalier attitude does little to inspire confidence in his leadership.

Mayor Barberio, it is your duty to attend critical public safety briefings—especially ones such as this, which drew hundreds of mayors from across the state. Regardless of how “well-informed” you believe you are, showing up matters. The purpose of the meeting wasn’t just to exchange updates but to shine a bright spotlight on an issue that has left township residents feeling deeply concerned and unsafe.

You should be a leading voice putting municipal pressure on state and federal officials to address these drones. You should be the one on national TV advocating for your community—not the Pequannock mayor. Parsippany is the largest municipality in the county, home to valuable public utilities, and your residents deserve better representation on this pressing issue. Your constituents are working people who understand responsibility and accountability. If we shirked our duties as you did, we’d likely lose our jobs. Residents are not convinced that you deserve a pass on this failure to act. It’s time to start prioritizing public safety over social events. Be more responsive to the people you serve—we deserve nothing less.

County Breaks Ground on Health & Emergency Multi-Purpose Facility

0
Architectural rendering of the Morris County Health & Emergency multi-purpose facility.

MORRIS COUNTYMorris County broke ground this week on a new multipurpose facility on the grounds of the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy to provide improved space for the Office of Public Health as well as garage and storage areas for the county’s key emergency response vehicles, personal protection gear, and life-saving equipment.

The project, located off West Hanover Avenue in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, is being financed through federal American Rescue Plan Act funding earmarked for improving Morris County’s public health facilities and the county’s ability to respond and prepare for public emergencies. The storage area will house vehicles and equipment from the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Law and Public Safety, including the Office of Public Health and Office of Emergency Management.

The facility, which will be approximately 65,540 square feet, will cost about $18 million.

The building, in part, will improve operational space, including meeting rooms and storage facilities, for the Office of Public Health as well as expand the county’s ability to house important response vehicles and centralize locations for emergency equipment. The Office of Public Health is currently located in a former armory building a short distance up West Hanover Avenue. That building will eventually be upgraded and repurposed for other county operations.

Site work began last week, and construction is expected to begin soon.

Letter to the Editor: Mayor Barberio’s View: Youth Equals “Immaturity” in Politics

0

Dear Editor:

Perhaps it is time to show Mayor Barberio a bit more understanding.

After all, as he so frequently reminds us, he ” is on duty 24 hours a day and, seven days a week”. So it’s little wonder why Mayor Barberio often sounds a bit tired, defensive, and cranky in his press releases and at Town Council meetings.

And, as  Mayor  Barberio is fond of pointing out, he is just not as young as some of his fellow elected officials in Parsippany. Attending all of those photo ops and grand openings must be exhausting especially when they coincide with official briefings such as the recent one that spoke to the safety and concerns of Parsippany residents regarding the appearance of multiple drones.

As the “mature”  Mayor Barberio has learned so well in his 12 years in office, his long-standing practice of putting his political interests first, though time-consuming, is time-tested and has served him and his cronies well.

And as Mr. Barberio is fond of pointing out anyone younger than him must be too “immature” to be Mayor if that person simply wants to serve the safety and financial interests of Parsippany residents.

On second thought, Mayor Barberio may very well be perfectly enough understood especially by those who will vote in the upcoming Republican primary.

The UAE has an impressive coastline you can explore to have a fun-filled vacation. No wonder many travel enthusiasts want to visit the country for a total-package vacation. However, sailing in the UAE is not just a luxury activity. It is an opportunity to explore the country’s beauty.

As nice as it seems, it is crucial to know what you want and go for it. What makes it sweeter is that you can rent a yacht in the UAE without any stress. Yet, you will get unmatched luxury and a memorable escapade. Below are notable factors to consider to ensure you rent a quality yacht:

  • Define the Purpose

The reason you want to go out into the sea is the first question you should have an answer to when you want to choose a UAE-quality yacht. The type of yacht you need for alone time fishing with family differs from when you want to host a large party.

Remember, the prices of charter yachts vary based on the amenities they offer. So, there’s no reason to pay extra for amenities you don’t need.

  • Know the Size to Go for

The size of the yacht also plays a vital role in ensuring you get the right option for your trip. For instance, suppose you want to rent a yacht for a solo weekend getaway or day sailing with your immediate family. A small vessel under 40 feet should be enough. A mid-sized yacht between 50 and 80 feet is perfect for a luxurious experience and space. A large yacht, typically above 80 feet, is the best option when planning an extended voyage with a large crowd.

  • Consider the Amenities

The specific amenities on yachts vary from vessel to vessel, but there are some essential amenities to look out for, especially when looking for quality. Things like Wi-Fi, BBQ grill equipment, bathroom amenities, comfortable accommodations with air conditioning or heating and music system, spacious saloon and deck, stocked kitchen with a dining area, and plenty of relaxation space may not seem like much but when at sea it goes a long way in helping you relax and enjoy the view.

  • Inspect the Yacht Before Booking

Visit the yacht before finalizing your booking to ensure it meets your expectations. Check for signs of wear or dent and document it with evidence. Remember to verify the presence of life jackets, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and other essential safety gear. Don’t hesitate to confirm it has enough room and the amenities advertised.

  • Choose the Right Itinerary

The UAE offers diverse sailing routes. However, your choice of itinerary will influence the type of yacht you need. Below are some notable itineraries to explore during your sailing adventure:

  • Eastern Coast Adventures
  • Dubai Marina to Burj Al Arab
  • Abu Dhabi’s Corniche
  • The Fjords of Musandam

Conclusion

Going on a yacht cruise in the UAE is an adventure you don’t want to miss. However, it is best to do it the right way to get the maximum satisfaction you’re craving. But with so many options available, how can you choose the perfect yacht for your adventure?

One thing is certain─ you can never get it wrong when you work with a reputable yacht rental company. The tips in this article have highlighted everything you need for a memorable yacht cruise in the UAE.

Mayor Barberio Responds to Musella’s Criticism and Immaturity and Addresses Community Concerns Regarding Drones

0
Photo for illustration purposes only. The actual incident may not reflect the photo.

Editors Note: This press release was submitted by Mayor James Barberio and was printed verbatim by Parsippany Focus.

PARSIPPANY — Once again, Musella has demonstrated a lack of maturity and sound judgment necessary for any elected office. As Mayor, my responsibilities require me to prioritize my time effectively. His assertion that I am not fulfilling my duties is not only unfounded but also deeply disappointing. Just yesterday, after being briefed on the drone situation, I attended the annual holiday gathering for our Golden Age Seniors—a cherished event where our seniors look forward to my presence and engagement. During this event, we discussed the drone issue, and our seniors expressed their gratitude for my attendance. It is clear that Musella does not prioritize our seniors; indeed, he previously attempted to eliminate funding for their transportation services, suggesting they simply “call an Uber.” I am committed to supporting our seniors, even when he is not.

Regarding the drones, I was already informed prior to yesterday’s briefing, and I anticipated that there would be little new information to report. I also watched the Homeland Security Director’s briefing before Congress, which provided no answers. This lack of information is why many mayors across the state chose not to attend the briefing—there was nothing substantive to discuss.

Assemblyman Bergen even left the briefing early, declaring it a waste of time on social media and in interviews. The reality is that our Federal and State Governments are still in the dark about the origins, operators, and intentions behind these drones. These situations are concerning for all of us, and I share in the frustration. As citizens and local representatives, we must remain vigilant. If you see a drone, please record it and report it to the FBI. In case of emergencies, dial 911. The local government in Parsippany is dedicated to supporting our residents around the clock, and I will collaborate with our local, county, and state partners to find answers. Any new information regarding the drones will be promptly shared with the community.

This is not the time for inexperienced individuals like Musella to politicize public safety and exploit people’s fears. If he were genuinely concerned about public safety, he would not have voted against hiring additional police officers or opposed investments that enhance Parsippany’s safety measures. He also sought to cut funding for the Office of Emergency Management and reduce support for our first aid squads and Rescue and Recovery operations. Since taking office, Musella has consistently spread misinformation and leveraged people’s fears for his political gain. The residents of Parsippany deserve better and expect more from their leaders.

It is possible that those operating these drones are observing how we respond, hoping to incite disruption and paranoia. They have certainly succeeded in affecting Musella. My experience teaches me to focus on what can be controlled and not let uncontrollable factors disrupt our lives. Many other mayors share this perspective, which is why they chose not to participate in yesterday’s unproductive briefing. Let us remain vigilant, informed, and calm, refusing to let ourselves be dictated by circumstances beyond our control. Together, we will show those operating these drones that we will not be intimidated or succumb to hysteria.

Joint DHS/FBI Statement on Reports of Drones in New Jersey

0
Photo for illustration purposes only. The actual incident may not reflect the photo.

MORRIS COUNTY — The FBI and DHS jointly issued a statement on reported drone sightings in New Jersey:

“We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus. The FBI, DHS and our federal partners, in close coordination with the New Jersey State Police, continue to deploy personnel and technology to investigate this situation and confirm whether the reported drone flights are actually drones or are instead manned aircraft or otherwise inaccurate sightings.

“Historically, we have experienced cases of mistaken identity, where reported drones are, in fact, manned aircraft or facilities. We are supporting local law enforcement in New Jersey with numerous detection methods but have not corroborated any of the reported visual sightings with electronic detection. To the contrary, upon review of available imagery, it appears that many of the reported sightings are actually manned aircraft, operating lawfully. There are no reported or confirmed drone sightings in any restricted air space.

“We take seriously the threat that can be posed by unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), which is why law enforcement and other agencies continue to support New Jersey and investigate the reports. To be clear, they have uncovered no such malicious activity or intent at this stage. While there is no known malicious activity occurring in New Jersey, the reported sightings there do, however, highlight the insufficiency of current authorities.”

Parsippany’s Full-Time Mayor a No-Show at State Drone Briefing for Mayors: Barberio Ditches Public Safety to Attend Holiday Party

0
Coast Guard observed drones flying between the ocean and land, with 50 drones in one instance. Recent sightings include 180 drones in one night. Investigation Details: The State Police have been investigating since November 18. Drones operate at night for 6-7 hours, emit no detectable RF signals, and shut off their lights when approached. No daytime sightings have been reported.

Editors Note: This press release was submitted by Mayor James Barberio and was printed verbatim by Parsippany Focus.

PARSIPPANYParsippany Mayor James R. Barberio was conspicuously absent from a critical state briefing today on the alarming drone sightings that have left township residents, and the entire Northeast deeply unsettled. While mayors from across New Jersey gathered in Ewing Township to address the escalating situation, Barberio opted to attend a holiday party instead.

The briefing focused on the ongoing FBI investigation into a surge of drone activity over the past three weeks. These drones, described by witnesses as “loud” and “huge”—some as large as a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) —have been spotted nightly, sparking widespread concern.

Earlier today, U.S. Congressman Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey disclosed to Fox News’ “The Faulkner’s Focus” that high-level security officials are tying these drones to Iranian interests.  The US State Department denies Van Drew’s assertion. Additionally, NJ State Senator Jon Bramnick is calling for a limited state of emergency over these drone sightings.

“It’s an egregious betrayal of public trust when this Mayor fails to show up at a pivotal briefing about drone activity over Parsippany—an issue the FBI itself has labeled ‘concerning,’” said Councilman and Republican Mayoral candidate Justin Musella. “Instead of indulging in holiday hors d’oeuvres, social events, and photo ops, this full-time employed mayor should have prioritized this serious matter of public safety. A competent leader would have sent a representative to the party and ensured our township’s concerns were heard at today’s meeting, which was attended by other Mayors throughout Morris County and the state,” Musella added.

The mysterious drones have drawn frustration from New Jersey residents and U.S. lawmakers alike. In addition to flying over residential areas in Parsippany, the drones have been seen near sensitive locations, including the Picatinny Arsenal in Wharton, NJ—a military research facility. Federal authorities, including military officials, have acknowledged the drones’ presence but admit they remain in the dark about their origin or intent.

Despite assurances that the drones pose no immediate danger, the lack of answers has left many questioning the government’s ability—or willingness—to aggressively investigate. The situation has become a flashpoint for public unease, with many demanding accountability and answers from local and federal leaders.

Mayor Barberio’s decision to skip this briefing sends a clear message: our community’s safety is not his priority,” Musella added. “As mayor, I will ensure Parsippany is never left out of critical discussions affecting our residents.”

Musella says Parsippany residents deserve much better than Barberio’s unprofessional behavior. “Leadership is about showing up when it matters most,” quipped Musella.

Why Are Oil Prices So Unpredictable in 2024?

0
https://unsplash.com/photos/red-and-black-metal-tower-during-sunset-hy97y

The oil market has experienced significant ups and downs this year, driven by global events like geopolitical tensions, shifts in production from OPEC, and weather disruptions. These factors have kept investors in the energy sector on alert.

While other asset classes, such as stocks, precious metals, and cryptocurrencies, have performed well this year, oil’s journey has been far less stable.

Just in the past week, crude oil prices have fluctuated widely. On one day, prices surged by 3.26%, extending a two-day rally fueled by escalating conflict in the Middle East. Events like missile attacks and military activity in the region created concerns about supply disruptions, pushing prices higher.

However, the very next day, oil prices dipped slightly as reports from the U.S. government showed an increase in crude stockpiles. This pattern of sudden rises and falls is typical of the volatility seen in the oil market this year.

This pattern of sudden rises and falls is typical of the volatility seen in the oil market this year, which is why many traders look for opportunities to understand how to trade commodities effectively in such uncertain environments.

Challenges for the Oil Market

2024 has been a challenging year for the energy sector, and oil prices have not been immune. Energy was the worst-performing sector in the third quarter, largely due to a slowdown in demand from key economies such as China. China, in particular, has been grappling with economic difficulties, which have reduced its need for oil. As a result, crude oil prices fell by 16% in the third quarter and are still down about 4% for the year.

Another factor affecting the market is the increase in oil production by several countries. For example, reports recently surfaced that Saudi Arabia plans to ramp up its oil output to regain its market share. This announcement led to a nearly 4% drop in oil prices in a single day.

Despite these headwinds, some industry watchers believe that oil prices will recover in the coming months. They cite a combination of factors, such as shrinking oil inventories and demand beginning to outpace supply. This could push Brent crude oil back above $80 per barrel, representing a notable recovery from current levels, which are around 12% lower.

What’s Next for Oil Prices?

Looking ahead, much of the movement in oil prices will depend on geopolitical developments, particularly in the Middle East. The region is a major producer of oil, and any disruptions to supply caused by conflict can significantly impact global prices. For instance, continued fighting in the region could lead to a further increase in crude prices.

Market analysts are watching closely to see how events unfold, as oil prices could easily shift by 5% or more, depending on how conflicts in key oil-producing areas evolve.

The future of oil prices also depends on global supply and demand dynamics. The U.S. Energy Information Administration predicts that Brent crude could reach $84 per barrel by 2025. However, others are more cautious, expecting prices to remain between $70 and $85, with the possibility that prices will stay closer to the lower end of that range.

Several factors could influence these predictions, including how much oil-producing countries decide to increase or cut their output and whether global demand picks up after a period of slower growth.

Conclusion

While other asset classes, such as stocks, precious metals, and cryptocurrencies, have performed well this year, oil’s journey has been far less stable.

While no one can predict oil prices with certainty, it is clear that the market remains sensitive to both supply and demand changes and unexpected global events. Investors in this sector will need to stay informed about global trends, as the oil market is likely to continue its unpredictable path for the foreseeable future.

The Unexpected Comeback Of Skilled Trades: The “New Collar” Jobs

0

The job market is in constant flux. Gone are the days when a college degree guaranteed a stable, lifelong career. Automation, globalization, and now the rise of artificial intelligence have disrupted traditional industries, leaving many feeling uncertain about their future. However, there is a viable solution: skilled trades.

Forget the outdated image of greasy overalls and dead-end jobs. Today’s skilled trades offer a dynamic, rewarding, and surprisingly high-tech career path for those seeking stability, purpose, and financial security. Electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, welders, carpenters – these are the “new collar” workers who build, maintain, and power our world. And they’re in high demand.

New (Old) Opportunities With a Twist

Why the sudden surge in popularity? For one, skilled trades offer what many traditional jobs can’t: tangible results. As a tradesperson, you see the direct impact of your work, whether it’s manufacturing, wiring a home, fixing a leaky pipe, or building a sturdy structure. This sense of accomplishment and purpose is a powerful motivator, especially for those tired of offices and “company family culture.”

Furthermore, skilled trades provide a level of job security that’s increasingly rare. While robots may be able to assemble cars or process data, they can’t easily replicate the human expertise needed to troubleshoot a complex electrical problem, install intricate plumbing systems, or weld precise joints. These are skills that require critical thinking, adaptability, and a deep understanding of how things work – qualities that remain uniquely human.

And, most importantly,  the financial rewards. Skilled trades often offer competitive salaries, with the potential to earn six figures or more with experience and specialization. Many tradespeople also have the option to start their own businesses, giving them even greater control over their income and career trajectory.

You will Need More Than Just a Toolbox

But it’s not just about turning a wrench or swinging a hammer. Today’s skilled trades require a diverse skillset that goes far beyond manual dexterity.

Problem-solving

Tradespeople are constantly faced with challenges that require critical thinking and analytical skills. Whether it’s diagnosing a faulty electrical system, designing efficient plumbing layouts, or troubleshooting a malfunctioning HVAC unit, the ability to identify problems and devise solutions is essential.

Adaptability

Every job site is different, and unexpected issues inevitably arise. Tradespeople need to be resourceful, think on their feet, and adjust their approach as needed. This ability to adapt to changing circumstances is crucial for success in the field.

Technological proficiency

Modern trades are increasingly reliant on technology. From computer-aided design (CAD) software to sophisticated diagnostic tools, tradespeople need to be comfortable with digital interfaces and have a basic understanding of how technology is integrated into their work.

Communication and teamwork

Many trades involve collaborating with other professionals, such as architects, engineers, and contractors. Clear communication, active listening, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are crucial for ensuring projects run smoothly and safely.

The Value of Continued Learning

Technology is moving fast, and continuous learning is not just an option – it’s a necessity. Staying current with industry advancements, new technologies, and evolving safety regulations is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge and ensuring long-term success.

Continuing education takes many forms, from formal coursework and workshops to online training and industry conferences. For instance, when it comes to electricians, it is mandatory to pursue electrical continuing education in New Jersey, and the same applies to plumbers, HVAC technicians, and many other professions.

This not only enhances a tradesperson’s skillset but also opens doors to specialization and career advancement.

Finding Your Path

Ready to explore the possibilities of a skilled trade career? Here’s how to get started:

Do your research. Explore different trades and identify those that align with your interests and aptitudes. Consider factors such as work environment, physical demands, and required skills.

Consider an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships offer a structured path to learning a trade, combining paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction. This hands-on experience is invaluable for developing the skills and knowledge needed to succeed.

Explore vocational schools. Vocational schools and trade programs provide focused training in specific trades, often leading to industry-recognized certifications. These programs can be a faster and more affordable alternative to a traditional four-year college degree.

Utilize online resources. Numerous online resources, career guides, and professional organizations offer valuable information about different trades, training options, and career paths.

New Collar Opportunities Await

The skilled trades offer a compelling alternative for those seeking a secure, fulfilling, and financially rewarding career path. In a world increasingly dominated by automation and uncertainty, these “new collar” jobs provide a sense of purpose, stability, and the opportunity to make a tangible difference. So, if you’re ready for a career change that challenges you, rewards you, and empowers you to build a better future, it’s time to explore the exciting world of skilled trades.
