PARSIPPANY — Par Troy’s East’s Julz Del Viscio comes through in the clutch, upends Maryland, 3-2 in first pool play game in the Eastern Regionals for New Jersey.
Julz Del Viscio smashed a double over left field to bring home the winning run to give PTE the lead in the sixth inning, as PTE hung on to beat Maryland 3-2 on Sunday, July 27.
Claudia Bennett doubled to get on base in the sixth. She then went from second to third on a sacrifice bunt by Nicole Ruggiero.
Del Viscio then finished the 10 pitch at bat with the winning hit. Luisa Barone reached base three times. She singled in the first inning and doubled in the third inning. Caitlin Brennan got her 8th straight win this all star season with the help of eight strikeouts and great defense. Brennan allowed two earned runs, three hits and three walks over seven innings. Savin pitched very well but was the hard luck loser for Maryland. She walked three, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
Par-Troy East jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Barone kicked things off for PTE with a single. An error then moved Barone from first to second. Then another error scored her. PTE scored one run in the third inning, and then followed it up with one more in the sixth. In the third, PTE scored on an RBI double by Elizabeth Quigley, scoring Barone.
