MOUNTAIN LAKES — The Lakeland Hills Family YMCA has been awarded a $10,000 grant from The Hyde & Watson Foundation to establish a mobile STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) based Maker Lab/Makerspace to be used by students in their Early Childhood Learning Center and their Kids Club after school childcare sites. This STEAM Maker Lab/Makerspace will provide the children with hands-on creative ways to encourage them to design and invent unique projects involving electronics, robotics, digital fabrication, and many other strategies.
The importance of STEAM instruction is critical for the future of our youth. According to the Y’s CEO, Vik Joganow, “As a direct result of this generous grant from Hyde & Watson, the Y will be able to expand its commitment to provide STEAM education to young people in our service area. The funds will be utilized to purchase computers, 3-D printers, and other related materials to create a mobile Maker Lab.”
The Y’s service area consists of the following towns: Boonton, Boonton Township, Butler, Denville, Kinnelon, Lincoln Park, Montville, Mountain Lakes, Parsippany, Pequannock, and Riverdale. For more information click here.
