Theft of Batteries from Cell Phone Towers

PARSIPPANY — The Parsippany Police Department’s Communication Center received a phone call from a contractor on Sylvan Way reporting a theft at 11:00 a.m. on June 24.

Patrol Officer Dave Cavaliere responded to the scene and spoke to the contractor, who is responsible for doing maintenance to the cell towers. The contractor stated an unknown suspect gained access to a cabinet that held sixteen backup batteries for the cell phone tower and stole all of them.
Patrol Officer Dave Cavaliere and the contractor also checked a second cell tower located on Route 10 and found that the storage cabinet holding the backup batteries was also entered, at which time the unknown suspect removed 16 batteries from that location as well.

Det. J. Keiling and Morris County CID responded to the scene and assisted in the investigation. This incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Parsippany Investigative Division at (973) 263-4311.
