PARSIPPANY — The threat of rainy weather didn’t stop the locals from flocking to Parsippany Hills High School field for the annual Fourth of July fireworks festivities.

Families spread out on the lawn, armed with glow sticks and frisbees as they spent time together for America’s birthday. Among entertainment, a performance by the band The Trip began at 7:00 p.m. and played upbeat songs to get the crowd ready to celebrate.

Fireworks were moved up and began at 9:15 due to the inclement weather. Despite the rain, it was a great night!

Steve Fazio, Steve Bonino, Erik Johnson, Mike Lewis and new front man Seth Romano of The Trip – California Cover Rock Band, traveled from Laguna Beach, California to Parsippany for this special event. It was definitely a high energy, genuine rock concert that takes you on a fun-filled musical journey through the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s … as well as today’s MODERN AND TOP 40 rock hits.

From The Beatles to Bruno Mars, Journey to Pink Floyd, AC/DC to Led Zep, Maroon5 to The Eagles, they do it all! They are one of the most popular booked bands in California, have won multiple “Top Rock Cover Band” awards, and were voted best cover band by CBS. They have performed for some pretty famous clients.

At the main entrance, Parsippany Volunteer Ambulance Squad was selling a hotdog, drink and snack for $1.00 each and Parsippany Rescue and Recovery wives were selling their famous lemonade. The Snowball Factory was selling snow cones, and all proceeds were donated to the Mount Tabor Fire Department.

The Eagle Scout Award is Scouting’s highest rank and among its most familiar icons. Men who have earned it count it among their most treasured possessions. Those who missed it by a whisker remember exactly which requirement they didn’t complete. Americans from all walks of life know that being an Eagle Scout is a great honor. The award is more than a badge. It’s a state of being. The Eagle Scout may have received the badge as a boy, but you earn it every day as a man. In the words of the Eagle Scout Promise, they do your best each day to make their training and example, their rank and their influence count strongly for better Scouting and for better citizenship in the troop, in their community, and in their contacts with other people. And  to this they pledge their sacred honor.

Also at the reception, Daniel gave Kris Hawkins his neckerchief slide. Dan received the neckerchief slide from Mr. Mack, the slide originally belonged to his son and he wanted Dan to have it as a sign of good will or luck. Dan wanted to pass it on to a younger scout and choose Kris.  Dan said “I gave it to Kris because I see him as becoming a leader in the troop and accomplishing great things.”

Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than two million young men. Only 4% of the Boy Scouts actually earn this rank.

Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating Scout Spirit through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages. Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal and a badge that visibly recognizes the accomplishments of the Scout.

In the event of a large scale disaster, Amateur Radio can be the only form of reliable communications out of a disaster zone. This event provided an opportunity for Hams to practice their skills in emergency communications. The unofficial motto of the Amateur Radio service is “When all else fails.” Tens of thousands of Ham Radio operators throughout the country participate in this annual event.
