The County Prosecutors Association of New Jersey announces the availability of the Oscar W. Rittenhouse, Andrew K. Ruotolo, Jr., Harris Y. Cotton and the John H. Stamler Memorial Scholarships. The County Prosecutors Association of the State of New Jersey Committee, a nonprofit corporation, annually awards scholarships to law students, college and graduate students.  Each scholarship is a one-year grant in the amount of up to $2,500.00 paid directly to the recipient.  Scholarship recipients from previous years are ineligible.

To be eligible for the Oscar W. Rittenhouse Memorial Scholarship, an applicant must be a New Jersey resident accepted for admission to a law school.  The applicant must have an interest in pursuing a career as a prosecutor.  The applicant must also demonstrate financial need.

To be eligible for the Andrew K. Ruotolo, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, an applicant must be a New Jersey resident accepted for admission to a law school or graduate school.  The applicant must exhibit an interest in, and commitment to, enhancing the rights and well-being of children through child advocacy programs.  The applicant must also exhibit financial need.

To be eligible for the Harris Y. Cotton Memorial Scholarship, an applicant must be a New Jersey resident accepted for admission to a law school.  The applicant must have an interest in pursuing a career as a prosecutor with an emphasis in Domestic Violence or Hate Crime prosecutions.  The applicant must also demonstrate financial need.

To be eligible for the John H. Stamler Memorial Scholarship, an applicant must be a New Jersey resident and sworn law enforcement officer seeking educational advancement on a college or graduate level to improve his or her effectiveness as a law enforcement officer.  The applicant must also demonstrate financial need.

Applications must be postmarked by July 15, 2014.  Personal interviews of finalists will be conducted.  Applicants will be notified of the Committee’s decision in September, 2014.  Anyone interested in receiving an application can download same at www.cpanj.info.

New Jersey AIDS Services, a local non-profit AIDS Service organization that provides housing and social services for people living with HIV/AIDS has been selected as the Morristown Hosts of the 2014 New Jersey AIDS Walk. The New Jersey AIDS Walk, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 organization which collaborates with several New Jersey cities that are home to leading HIV/AIDS service organizations. These cities unite to produce state-wide awareness and fundraising walks. This year’s walk, presented by Janssen Therapeutics, will be held on Sunday, May 4. On this day, at exactly the same time, thousands upon thousands of people will walk in solidarity throughout the state of New Jersey in effort to raise funds and awareness for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Walks in all five cities are open to the public and registration is free. Walks will take place in Asbury Park, Atlantic City, Morristown, Newark and Ridgewood. A unified step-off in all cities will be at 1:00 p.m.

Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Town of Boonton Police Chief David J. Mayhood announce the arrest of Harry E. Schnitzer, 70, Parsippany, on a charge related to a robbery that occurred on Wednesday, April 30 at the Santander Bank in Boonton.

On April 30, 2014, at approximately 10:08 am, Harry E. Schnitzer is alleged to have entered the Santander Bank located at 405 Main Street, Boonton. Once inside, Schnitzer allegedly demanded money and at one point threatened to get his gun. Schnitzer then fled the bank on foot.

In response to this incident, the Major Crimes Unit of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Boonton Police Department began an investigation into the identity of this assailant.

On Thursday, May 1 the Honorable Robert J. Gilson, J.S.C. authorized a warrant-complaint charging Harry E. Schnitzer with a crime related to this incident.

The defendant was charged with the crime of Robbery, a crime of the first degree.

Judge Gilson set bail at $200,000 full cash, bond or property without a ten percent option. The defendant was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility.

The investigation revealed that Schnitzer was formerly employed with the Essex County Sheriff’s Office where he retired in 2002 as a Lieutenant.

Schnitzer was born in 1943 and retired from Essex County in July 2002 after serving 17 years. Schnitzer collects a member pension that is funded by the PERS – Public Employee Retirement System. Schnitzer’s monthly pension payment of $3,112.54 – based off a salary of $76,057.

Acting Prosecutor Knapp stated “the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Detectives and the Boonton Police Department Detectives worked tirelessly to make this arrest. Classic and effective investigative efforts were successfully utilized to apprehend this alleged offender.”

Acting Prosecutor Knapp commended Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Troiano, Sergeant Steven Brylinski and Detective Kathryn Kutepow of the Major Crimes Unit along with Boonton Detective Leroy Harris.

Acting Prosecutor Knapp and Chief Mayhood thank the Major Crimes Unit of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Parsippany Troy-Hills Police Department, the Boonton Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office-Criminal Investigation Section and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The charges and allegations are merely accusations, and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.

On Saturday, May 10 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. the Stickley Museum celebrates spring with the second annual Family Fun & Games Day funded by Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany. The day’s activities are built around the theme “My Home” and will include bilingual components. Children of all ages are invited to learn about homes of all kinds, including the Stickley family’s home, the Log House at Craftsman Farms.

A Curious George appearance and activities will delight children and adults alike, courtesy of the Stickley Museum’s continuing partnership with PBS Kids Club THIRTEEN. The North Cottage will host a story time reading of The Best Nest by P. D. Eastman in both English and Spanish and other stories. While focused on family fun, this program will also encourage children to consider concepts that Gustav Stickley held dear, like the value of nature and the meaning of home. MORRISTOWN — Two Newark residents were indicted by a Morris County grand jury today on charges they robbed banks in Parsippany and Springfield in December after threatening to use a bomb. The alleged robberies took place Dec. 18 at the Investors Savings…

Two Parsippany seniors will each receive a $500 check from the Parsippany-Troy Hills Education Association (PTHEA), as winners of the 2014 John Capsouras Faculty Scholarship.

The annual award is funded entirely by individual teacher members of the PTHEA.

The grant was established by long time Parsippany Business teacher and Association President John Capsouras, as recognition of outstanding students of Business who are considering pursuing a career in teaching.

Since his passing in 2012, the annual award has borne his name.

The 2014 John Capsouras Faculty Scholarship award winners are Aaron Wood of Parsippany High School and Ryan Mao of Parsippany Hills High School. Both are seniors currently studying Business in their respective schools.

The students will receive their prizes at formal senior awards ceremonies at each school:  Aaron Wood, Parsippany High School, Thursday, June 5 at 7:00 p.m.; Ryan Mao, Parsippany Hills High School, Wednesday, June 4 at 7:00 p.m.
