Two Junior Firefighters Graduated Junior Firefighter Class

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — Brandon Schweizer Jr, and Dylan James recently graduated from Morris County Public Safety Academy, Junior Firefighter Class.

Brandon and Dylan are now trained firefighters and join the ranks of Parsippany District 5 Fire Department as Junior Firefighters. Attending their graduation was Chief Brandon Schweizer Sr.

The Parsippany District 5 Fire Department has been serving eastern Parsippany since 1928. They are an all-volunteer fire department with a current membership of over fifty men and women who utilize two fire houses for response.

Woman’s Club Announces Upcoming Meeting Schedule

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — The first General Meeting of the new 2017-2018 club year for the Woman’s Club of Parsippany Troy Hills (WCPTH) will be held on Monday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lake Parsippany Rescue & Recovery Building, 100 Centerton Drive.

The meeting is open to all area women interested in learning about the club and its involvement in the local community.

The Club has served the township and the state with initiatives to support not only education, but also home life, conservation and more.

WCPTH is very proud to have been instrumental in the founding of the Parsippany Library and the Parsippany Child Day Care Center.

Today the Woman’s Club is involved with the Parsippany Food Pantry, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Jersey Battered Women’s Service and Child Abuse Prevention – NJ.  The club also supports Boatsie’s Boxes for the military serving overseas, UNICEF, Heifer International and other worthy and charitable causes. The club really does offer something for everyone.

The Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills is a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC), which is the largest volunteer women’s service organization in the state, providing opportunities for education, leadership training, and community service.

Stephen Catanzaro was named 2017 Most Valuable Player for Parsippany Mens Softball League

Horseshoe Tavern defeated Brick 46 taking home the Champion. Stephen Catanzaro of Horseshoe received the “Most Valuable Player” award.

Freddie Amato, Juan Correa and Kenny Prestia coordinates the summer and fall leagues. Brian Stanton, Joe Grasso and Phil Kornreich are the empires.

Seeking Golfers for Elks Club Annual Golf Outing

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — The Parsippany-Troy Hills Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is holding their annual golf outing at the Knoll West Golf Club on Friday, August 25.

The funds that are raised during the year help support all the charitable works of the organization.

Some of which include Special Need Children, our hospitalized disabled military service veterans, local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, drug awareness, college scholarships for our area high school seniors, Elks National Foundation, which also funds the above activities and other programs dedicated to community involvement.

Last year alone, they were able to donate over $27,000.00 plus to the above­ mentioned organizations through different events and activities.

For a $50.00 donation, you can sponsor a hole, which will show your name or logo on the golf course.

Tickets for golfing are $125.00 and includes coffee at 7:00 a.m. and a shotgun at 8:00 a.m. Hole 19 will be held at Parsippany Elks Lodge 2078, 230 Parsippany Road, with sliced filet mignon steak dinner and open bar. Click here for application form.

Morris Township Police Sergeant saves the life of a two year old child while on vacation

MORRIS TOWNSHIP —  On Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 1:28 p.m., Morris Township Police Sergeant Sean O’Hare was enjoying his vacation at Clearwater Beach, Florida, when he was “called into action.”

Sergeant O’Hare quickly recognized the commotion and distress surrounding the incident of a two year old child that was drowning.

The child was blue and not breathing when removed from the water.

Sergeant O’Hare initiated CPR and was able to resuscitate the child.

MONTVILLE — The Morris County Democrat Committee held a fundraiser at the Montville Community Park on Saturday, August 12. Over 200 were in attendance to listen to Congresswoman Candidate Mikie Sherrill, Passaic County Freeholder John Bartlett, Woodland Park Mayor Keith Kazmark and Mitch Colbert.  Scott Salmon (District 7 Congressman Candidate) and Peter Jacob, running against Leonard Lance also joined to listen to special guest Speaker Emeritus and Lt. Governor candidate, Sheila Oliver.

PARSIPPANY — Ryan T. Byrne, a 2013 Graduate of Parsippany Hills High School, recently graduated from Hofstra University in May 2017, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

Succasunna Woman Tried Poisoning Grandmother with Anti-Freeze

SUCCASUNNA — Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Roxbury Township Police Chief Marc Palanchi announce that Elise Conroy, 26, Succasunna, has been charged with the Attempted Murder of her grandmother, L.E., 84, also of Succasunna.

During the early morning hours of Saturday, August 12, Conroy was charged by Warrant-Complaint with the first-degree crime of Attempted Murder related to an ongoing investigation into her attempt to poison her grandmother with use of liquid anti-freeze.

The charges were authorized by Municipal Court Judge Ira Cohen on August 12.  Thereafter, Conroy was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending future court proceedings.

It is alleged that in late July, Conroy purchased liquid anti-freeze from a local store with the purpose of poisoning her grandmother, whom she resided with in Succasunna.  Thereafter, it is alleged that Conroy poured the anti-freeze into juice and gave the juice to her grandmother. 

Members of the Roxbury Township Police Department, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office – Criminal Investigation Section have contributed to this investigation.

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department PBA #131 is hosting a “Fight Against Childhood Cancer” boxing fundraiser at the Parsippany Police Athletic League building, 33 Baldwin Road on September 1, starting at 7:00 p.m.

Sean Reis is a 10 year-old Parsippany boy battling a rare form of brain cancer.

On February 6, 2012, at just four years old, Sean was diagnosed with a large dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor (DNET) in the left side of his brain, and underwent his first of multiple surgeries the next day. Since then, Sean’s tumor has been in remission for several years, however his family recently learned that the battle is not yet over.

All proceeds will go to the Team Sean foundation and donations are tax deductible.

The event is a fundraiser to help support Sean in his battle against brain cancer. In May, Sean underwent his fourth brain surgery to remove the new tumor the was discovered in February, and since recovering from that, has spent his summer undergoing daily radiation treatment. 

Brenda Reis, Sean’s mother said “We are so grateful for the support we have received from our amazing “little” town of Parsippany, and are looking forward to this upcoming event.  Officer Dan Cicala is leading this event.” 

Sean is currently receiving daily radiation treatments, but his appointments are typically in the early afternoon so we are usually available in the mornings or late afternoon/evenings.

RANDOLPH — Please consider opening your heart and home – you can make a difference and help save lives. 

Furever Home Dog Rescue (FHDR) is dedicated to saving adoptable puppies and dogs from being euthanized due to lack of space in the shelter system. FHDR is an all volunteer organization with foster families throughout New Jersey.

FHDR does not have a kennel facility.  All of the pups rescued are placed in foster homes with children and pets where they can be cared for and FHDR can get a sense of the dogs’ personalities and needs. The pups are vetted & remain in foster homes until they can place in with their furever home families!  

Fostering is a rewarding experience.  Please consider opening your home to foster a puppy or dog.

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — Celebrate fall harvest and Craftsman Farms’ agricultural past at the 11th Annual Fall Family Day.  This traditional fall festival is the museum’s biggest family program of the year and will be held on Saturday, September 16 from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 p.m.

Fall Family Day features seasonal fun with hayrides around the grounds of Craftsman Farms, and pumpkin painting. Indoor and outdoor scavenger hunts encourage children to explore the landscape that was once the Stickley family’s home and farm. Craft activities and handicraft demonstrations exercise young minds and hands. Bring the whole family and arrive early for a picnic on the grounds. 

Inside Stickley’s Log House, tours will be suspended for the day and families are invited to stroll through the museum Open House at their own pace. 

Event begins at 12:00 Noon and ends at 4:00 p.m.  Admission prices cover all activities. Site is the  former estate of Gustav Stickley, now a National  Historic Landmark and operated as a museum, just  off  Route 10 West.

Driver of motor vehicle crash charged with DWI

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — While responding to an unrelated call, Patrol Officer Denis DeMuro observed a motor vehicle crash near 1470 Route 46 West at 8:37 p.m. on Monday, August 7.

He immediately responded to the scene and spoke with the involved parties. After a brief investigation it was determined that a 2001 Infiniti I30, driven by Edward Bergman, 50, Parsippany, crashed into the rear of a 2007 Subaru Forester.

An ambulance was requested due to Mr. Bergman reporting a head injury from the crash. Upon arrival of Rockaway Neck First Aid Squad, his reported injuries were evaluated.

Officers further advised him that he was under arrest for driving while intoxicated and was then transported to Saint Clares Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Subaru did not report any injuries at the time of the crash.

Mr. Bergman was subsequently charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, and Following Too Closely.

He was released on his own recognizance pending his court date.

DeCroce Named Assistant Republican Minority Leader in NJ General Assembly

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce (R-26) was appointed Republican Assistant Leader by Jon Bramnick, the Assembly Republican Leader. Assemblywoman DeCroce has served in the Assembly since 2012.

“I appreciate the Leader’s faith in me for this leadership position”, said DeCroce. “I will continue to work hard for the Republican Party”.

Currently, Assemblywoman DeCroce serves on the Commerce and Economic Development, Transportation & Independent Authorities, Health & Senior Services, Joint Committee on Public Schools, the Intergovernmental Relations Commission and the Pre-Trial Services Review Commission.

Assemblywoman DeCroce previously served on the Education, Higher Education and Women & Children assembly committees.

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS – Parsippany-Troy Hills Patrol Officer David Roman responded to a commercial building on a reported vehicle theft. Upon his arrival he spoke to the victim who advised him that between 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 7 and 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8 an unknown suspect(s) stole a 2002 Ford Econoline Commercial Van which contained a condenser unit and tools.

The victim further advised that another vehicle had a window shattered and a computer stolen out of it.

A third vehicle was broken into and the door lock was removed. Detective Matthew McAuliffe and the Morris County Sheriff’s Department CIS responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.

The vehicle was located by the Newark Police Department on Thursday, August 10.

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Officer Pasquale Parisi responded to the cell phone tower off South Beverwyck Road for a reported theft at 1:04 p.m. on Thursday, August 10.

Upon his arrival he spoke to the victim’s representative who reported four batteries for the backup generator were stolen. He further advised the theft occurred on August 8. This incident remain under investigation.

UPS worker charged with theft of movable property

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — Patrol Officer Edward Elston and Gregory Lowe responded to United Parcel Service, 799 Jefferson Road on a reported theft at 3:08 p.m. on August 8. Upon their arrival they spoke to building security who advised them that Alexander Decker, 20, Parsippany, was observed removing the contents of a package and concealing it.

After a brief investigation Mr. Decker was placed under arrest for theft of movable property.

He was transported to Police Headquarters, processed and charged with one count of Theft of Movable Property, a Disorderly Persons Offense.

He was released on his own recognizance pending his court date.

CCM Exhibition Recognizes National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

RANDOLPH — In conjunction with the Counseling and Student Success department at County College of Morris (CCM), the college’s Art and Design Gallery will be hosting an exhibition to recognize National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

The exhibition, titled “Marisa Rincón: An Impression of Life,” will feature the artwork of Marisa Rincón, a 2007 CCM Fine Arts graduate, who died by suicide this past February.

The exhibit consists of more than 20 works by Rincón. Also featured in the show are painted portraits of Rincón created by prominent New Jersey artists Tim Maher, John B. Wolff and Lorraine deSmet. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, runs August 21 to October 13, in Gallery B, which is the outer portion of the gallery.

A second exhibit featuring the work of CCM professors from the Photography Program, titled “Photography Program Faculty Exhibition,” will be held in Gallery A, from August 29 to October 13.

There will be two receptions for the exhibits:

The first reception, cosponsored by the Art and Design and Counseling and Student Success departments, will be held 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12.

The second reception will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14.

Silver Star Acting Camp was formed for special needs young adults

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — Silver Star Acting Camp for children through young adults with special needs was created in 2014 by Brittani Vecchia, Jackie and Sarah Pascale. It started out as their Girl Scout Silver Award Project. It was such a great success the girls continued to run the camp each summer with the help of their friends.

The camp was held at the Elks Lodge on Parsippany Road during the second week of August. The camp is run solely by volunteer counselors. The counselors work with the campers teaching them key acting skills which helps the campers to improve their social skills. There are also a lot of dancing, games and arts and crafts which the campers love. At the end of the week, the campers perform a show for family and friends.

This camp is truly special. To see the counselors volunteer all of their time, to see how kind and patient they are with the campers, and to see the smiles and hear the laughter from the campers, that is what Silver Star Acting Camp is all about.

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — The Woman’s Club of Parsippany–Troy Hills (WCPTH) recently conducted its Annual Back-to-School Collection to benefit the children at the residences of Jersey Battered Women’s Service (JBWS) of Morris County.  JBWS provides a safe house and transitional living accommodations for victims of domestic abuse and their children.  This year, WCPTH club members and friends donated $750.00 in gift cards for Wal-Mart, Target and Kohl’s  so that the children’s mothers can buy them school clothes.  Club members and friends also donated almost  $170.00 worth of snacks and beverages for school lunches and after-school snacking.
