Veteran Morris County Director Of Aging, Disabilities And Veterans Retiring

MORRIS COUNTY — Theresa Davis, the longtime Director of the Morris County Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans, has announced her retirement on July 31, after nearly three decades of service to residents of Morris County.

Davis, a Denville resident, was hired by Morris County as a research assistant on January 13, 1986, quickly moved up the ranks to program coordinator in 1988, principle planner in 1990, and program development specialist by 1993.

She was appointed as Morris County Nutrition Program Director in 1994, and was named Director of the Morris County Division on Aging Disabilities and Veterans later that same year.

The freeholder board presented a special resolution to Davis at their July 22 freeholder meeting, which was held at the Netcong Borough Hall. Davis was joined by her husband, Dennis Bennett, and some longtime colleagues at the ceremony.

“Theresa has long served some of our neediest people – elderly, disabled and veterans, in particular,’’ said Morris County Freeholder Director Kathy DeFillippo.

“Theresa has been a great asset to the county and will be tough to replace,’’ DeFillippo continued. “It has been a comfort to many freeholder boards to know that Theresa was standing behind us, protecting the most vulnerable residents of the county. She will be sorely missed.’’

“Theresa has been a strong leader in the community and advocate for seniors and people with disabilities and veterans throughout her career in Morris County,’’ said Morris County Human Services Director Jennifer Carpinteri. She has touched the lives of many county residents. I thank her for her years of service and wish her the very best.’’

Woman’s Club Prospective Member Open House

PARSIPPANY — The Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills invites women interested in the club to attend their “Prospective Member Open House” on Tuesday, August 18 at the Historic Smith-Baldwin House located at 460 South Beverwyck Road.  The event is from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.  Members will discuss club activities and plans for the fall.

Par-Troy East beats Maryland 3-2; They face Delaware on Monday

PARSIPPANY — Par Troy’s East’s Julz Del Viscio comes through in the clutch, upends Maryland, 3-2 in first pool play game in the Eastern Regionals for New Jersey.

Julz Del Viscio smashed a double over left field to bring home the winning run to give PTE the lead in the sixth inning, as PTE hung on to beat Maryland 3-2 on Sunday, July 27.

Claudia Bennett doubled to get on base in the sixth. She then went from second to third on a sacrifice bunt by Nicole Ruggiero.

Del Viscio then finished the 10 pitch at bat with the winning hit. Luisa Barone reached base three times. She singled in the first inning and doubled in the third inning. Caitlin Brennan got her 8th straight win this all star season with the help of eight strikeouts and great defense. Brennan allowed two earned runs, three hits and three walks over seven innings. Savin pitched very well but was the hard luck loser for Maryland. She walked three, struck out one, and allowed three runs.

Par-Troy East jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Barone kicked things off for PTE with a single. An error then moved Barone from first to second. Then another error scored her. PTE scored one run in the third inning, and then followed it up with one more in the sixth. In the third, PTE scored on an RBI double by Elizabeth Quigley, scoring Barone.

PARSIPPANY — Par-Troy East Senior Girls Softball beats Maryland 3-2 in their first game of the Regions held in Worcester, Mass. Monday, July 27 they will be playing against Delaware.

As tradition goes after every win they go to Applebees’s…even in Worcester. Then onto cheering on our Big Leage counterpart from Wall and a dinner and dance for Managers and Coaches later today.

JCP&L Reminds Customers to Register for Programs to Help Stay Informed During Summer Storm Season

MORRISTOWN — With the summer storm season underway, Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) reminds customers who depend on private well water, or use electrically operated life support equipment, to register their account with the company to receive updates on potential service interruptions, such as weather-related outages.

JCP&L maintains a list of homes and businesses that depend on electrically operated private wells for water.  These customers are notified if a power outage is expected to affect their electric service for more than 24 hours, in which case they would be advised of locations where water and ice are available.  JCP&L currently has more than 45,000 customers on this list.  Those who have previously signed up for this service do not need to contact the company again.

In addition, JCP&L has a list of more than 2,800 critical care customers who depend on electrically operated life support equipment.  These customers would be contacted should an outage affect their electric service for more than 24 hours.  To be included on the list, critical care customers should contact JCP&L to obtain an authorization form that needs to be signed by their physician every year.

“We have made great strides over the years in communicating with our critical customers, but it is important they work with us to ensure their accounts are properly registered in our system,” said Mark Jones, JCP&L vice president of External Affairs.  “As an added safeguard, we also provide the well water and life support system lists to county and municipal Offices of Emergency Management.”

To receive additional information, authorization forms, or register for JCP&L’s special account programs, customers should call 1-800-662-3115.

JCP&L also reminds customers that it offers a number of ways to report power outages and receive restoration updates.   To report a power outage customers can:
