PARSIPPANY โ A Parsippany man was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a breath test after police say he rear-ended another vehicle at a red light on Route 46 West, according to the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department.
According to Officer Nicholas Santangelo, officers responded to the intersection of Route 46 West and Vail Road on Monday, July 13, at approximately 11:32 p.m. for a two-car crash. Officers found that a Honda Civic had rear-ended a Porsche Macan.
The report states that the driver of the Porsche, identified as Kush Patel, told officers he was stopped at a red traffic signal at the intersection when the Honda struck his vehicle from behind. The driver of the Honda, identified as Ony Perezquintanilla, 30, told officers the signal had been yellow and that the vehicle ahead of him stopped abruptly. Police determined through physical damage and driver statements that the crash was caused by Perezquintanilla’s inattention and following too closely, due to operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
While speaking with Perezquintanilla, officers detected an odor of alcohol coming from his person. Due to a language barrier, an additional officer was requested to assist. Officers administered standardized field sobriety tests, after which Perezquintanilla was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle under the influence and transported to police headquarters, where he refused to submit to an Alcotest breath test.
Perezquintanilla was issued six summonses:
- Driving While Intoxicated (39:4-50)
- Careless Driving (39:4-97)
- Reckless Driving (39:4-96)
- Following Too Closely (39:4-89)
- Consent to Take Samples of Breath (39:4-50.2)
- Refusal to Submit to Chemical Test (39:4-50.4a)
The Honda was towed from the scene by Eagle Towing.
