Thousands to Step Out in Parsippany for PanCAN PurpleStride to Fight Pancreatic Cancer

0
Participants gather at GAF Headquarters in Parsippany for PurpleStride New Jersey, joining thousands nationwide in the walk to end pancreatic cancer. The April 26 event aims to raise $530,000 in support of patient services, research, and early detection efforts.

PARSIPPANY — On Saturday, April 26, at 8:00 a.m., Parsippany will once again become a hub of hope and determination as the New Jersey Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) hosts the annual PurpleStride New Jersey event at GAF Headquarters.

Residents from across the state are invited to take part in the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer, joining thousands nationwide in a powerful show of solidarity. PurpleStride New Jersey is one of nearly 60 walks happening simultaneously across the country as part of a significant national effort to raise awareness and critical funding for pancreatic cancer patients and their families.

The New Jersey event has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $530,000, contributing to PanCAN’s national goal of $17 million. All proceeds will support PanCAN’s free, personalized patient services, research initiatives, and early detection efforts, which aim to increase survival rates for one of the deadliest forms of cancer.

We can make a difference in the lives of pancreatic cancer patients nationally by taking action locally when we come together on April 26,” said Debbie Schupper, volunteer Affiliate Chair of PanCAN’s New Jersey Affiliate.

Pancreatic cancer remains the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, with a five-year survival rate of just 13 percent. Recent losses of beloved public figures such as Alex Trebek, Willie Garson, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and John Lewis have brought national attention to the urgent need for more research and advocacy.

This year’s PurpleStride is generously supported by Leading National Partner Revolution Medicines, National Sponsors AbbVie and Ipsen, Regional Sponsor Nestle Health Science, and Community Champion Sponsors RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, among other local supporters.

Participation is free, but registration is required.

Fully Leased 204,000-Square-Foot Office Building Hits the Market

0
The 203,506-square-foot office building at 14 Sylvan Way in Parsippany is fully leased through 2029 and now on the market, as the surrounding former Mack-Cali Campus undergoes major redevelopment into a mixed-use hub.

PARSIPPANY — A real estate investment trust has listed 14 Sylvan Way, a 203,506-square-foot Class A office building, for sale. The fully leased property offers investors a steady cash flow and long-term upside within Parsippany’s evolving business corridor.

Marketed by JLL, the property is 100 percent net leased to Travel + Leisure Co. through August 2029. Although the tenant has vacated the building, it has subleased over 94,000 square feet to companies, including CohnReznick, a national accounting and advisory firm. The building will generate nearly $26 million in contractual income during the remaining lease term.

Completed in 2013, 14 Sylvan Way boasts LEED Gold certification and a suite of high-end amenities such as a full-service cafeteria, tenant lounge, game room, courtyard, and conference facilities. Its location offers immediate access to Interstates 80 and 287 and Routes 10, 46, and 202.

“The 4.2-year weighted average lease term provides a future owner with a long runway to execute on lease-up opportunities while collecting significant in-place cash flow,” according to JLL’s marketing materials.

The property is situated in the former Mack-Cali Business Campus, which is transforming significantly into a vibrant mixed-use destination. Recent changes in the area include:

  • 1 Sylvan Way (home to MJM Insurance) is currently vacant.
  • 6 Sylvan Way has been demolished and will soon be redeveloped into a Life Time Fitness facility with 238 multi-family residential units.
  • 9 Sylvan Way was also demolished and will become a warehouse facility.

These changes reflect a broader trend in Parsippany, as former office complexes are repurposed to meet the growing demand for lifestyle amenities, housing, and logistics infrastructure.

JLL’s Jose Cruz, Jeremy Neuer, and Bradley Wachenfeld are handling the listing for 14 Sylvan Way. Michael Lachs and Tim Greiner are overseeing financing and leasing advisory services. CohnReznick, which currently occupies the building’s third floor, is a candidate for a direct lease extension beyond 2029, providing further value to a potential buyer.

Parsippany Library Debuts Coffee Nook, Courtesy of the Friends of the Library

0
Head of Information Services Nicholas Jackson, along with members of the Friends of the Library and staff, cuts the ribbon to officially open the new Coffee Nook at Parsippany Library, 449 Halsey Road.

PARSIPPANY — The Parsippany-Troy Hills Main Public Library patrons, located at 449 Halsey Road, can now enjoy a warm cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. At the same time, they browse, study, or relax, thanks to the newly opened Coffee Nook, made possible through a generous donation from the Friends of the Library.

Located within the main library, the Coffee Nook offers a variety of hot beverages—including coffee, flavored lattes, tea, and hot chocolate—for just $2.00 per cup. The proceeds cover the cost of operation.

The new Coffee Nook at Parsippany Library, 449 Halsey Road, is a cozy spot where patrons can enjoy fresh coffee, tea, or hot chocolate—complete with cookies, creamers, and cozy vibes, courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

The project, nearly a year in the making, was the vision of Library Director Melissa Kuzma, who drew inspiration from similar amenities at other libraries. “Whether you’re looking for a pick-me-up during a long study session or craving a hot drink while enjoying one of our amazing programs, the Coffee Nook has you covered,” said Kuzma. “I am especially grateful to the Friends of the Library, whose generous donation made this project possible.”

For years, Parsippany residents have taken to social media expressing the desire for a “coffee place” where they could unwind—either with friends or alone. The Coffee Nook now fills that gap within the community’s central hub.

Friends of the Library members were quick to share their excitement. “It is a wonderful asset to the Library,” said Theresa Troiano. “What’s better than coffee and a book?”

Brenda Jackson, another active member, added, “I love the library Reading Parties, and it would be great to enjoy a cup of coffee with my novel.”

Even self-professed coffee connoisseurs were impressed. Membership Coordinator Praveena Grover said, “I am very picky about my coffee, but this was the best latte I have ever had from a machine.” New member Carol Meyer echoed her enthusiasm: “I was excited to have the first cup of coffee after the ribbon cutting. Lavazza Coffee is one of my favorite brands.”

Nicholas Jackson, Head of Information Services, summarized the staff’s sentiments, stating, “It is wonderful to be able to offer coffee and tea to our many customers who spend so much time studying and working in the Library.”

The Coffee Nook is open during regular library hours. Whether you are deep in research or simply savoring a good book, this cozy corner offers just the right blend of comfort and community.

Demolition Marks the End of an Era: Tomac Motor Inn’s 30-Room Legacy Fades, Leaving Only a Crumbling Facade on Route 10

0
The closed Tomac Motor Inn is currently being demolished

PARSIPPANY — The Tomac Motor Inn was recently demolished, leaving behind only its fading facade — a final echo of what once stood along Route 10.

There are no publicly announced plans to redevelop the former Tomac Motor Inn property located at 2100 Route 10 in Parsippany. Although the motel has permanently closed, no formal proposals or approvals for new construction or reuse of the site have been submitted.

Its rooms are gone, its sign dimmed—only the facade of the Tomac Motor Inn still lingers.

While neighboring communities like Morristown are seeing notable redevelopment—such as mixed-use projects near the NJ Transit station—there are no indications that similar efforts are in progress for the Tomac Motor Inn site.

A few years ago, a national hotel chain with restaurant amenities submitted plans to redevelop the site. However, the proposal met with significant opposition from local residents, ultimately stalling any forward movement.

Letter to the Editor: Barberio’s No Godfather, and This Isn’t Hollywood

0

Dear Editor:

I’ve read recently on Facebook these stories regarding the Parsippany Mayoral election. since these folks like to refer to councilman Justin as Fredo, do they also support mayor Barberio as the GODFATHER of Parsippany? A “B” actor in mob movies supporting a failed mayor is not really vey impressive.

Actually, quite embarrassing for both parties.

This is a political election to lead our community, not a “B” MOVIE!

MORRIS COUNTY — On March 13, 2025, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Captain Joseph Costello joined the 244 law enforcement officers graduating from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

FBI Director Kash Patel delivered remarks at the ceremony for the 293rd session of the National Academy and presented graduates with their certificates. This session involved men and women from 48 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 24 countries, 11 military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy consists of 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. The training is provided by instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees, and many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. Academy participants with proven records as agency professionals are permitted to enroll. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience.

Captain Costello is only the eighth Morris County Prosecutor’s Office member to have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935.

Abandoned Dog Found at Parsippany Apartment Complex

Nina, a sweet senior dog rescued in Parsippany, is now safe and healing—waiting patiently for a forever home filled with love and comfort.

PARSIPPANY — Parsippany Animal Control and Shelter is asking the community to open their hearts to Nina, a senior dog found abandoned, emaciated, and covered in bite wounds at a local apartment complex.

When Animal Control officers discovered her, Nina was limping, starving, and emotionally devastated. “We could tell her heart was broken, even after being abandoned by her person and suffering through the poor care she received from them,” shelter officials shared. “We gave her the name Nina, even though that’s likely not her name, but she seems happy with it.”

Veterinary care revealed that Nina suffers from several age-related, degenerative conditions, including hip dysplasia, knee issues, and arthritis. Despite her challenges, she is steadily improving, thanks to consistent medical treatment, pain management, and nutritious food.

Authorities have not yet released any details about who abandoned her or how long she was left alone.

Described as a low-maintenance companion, Nina wants affection, a warm bed, food, and regular potty breaks. Shelter staff describe her as deeply affectionate and eager to be near people. While she’s wary of cats and keeps her distance, she is not aggressive toward them. However, due to her discomfort around other dogs, it’s recommended that she be the only dog in her new home.

“Nina doesn’t belong in a shelter,” officials posted. “We are looking for an adopter or rescue to brighten her sad eyes. She will be spayed before adoption.”

Those interested in giving Nina the loving home she deserves are encouraged to submit an adoption application. The shelter will review applications and promptly arrange meet-and-greets with suitable adopters.

“We know finding what Nina needs is not easy,” the shelter added, “but we are hopeful she has an angel out there.”
