PARSIPPANY โ€” Mayor Pulkit Desai presented a proclamation on Tuesday, October 20, declaring October as Hindu Heritage Month in the Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills.

Hinduism is one of the world’s oldest living religious traditions, with more than one billion followers worldwide, and its rich history, spiritual teachings and cultural traditions have influenced civilizations for thousands of years. The proclamation notes that the township and the State of New Jersey are home to a vibrant Hindu American community whose members have made meaningful contributions to the cultural, civic, educational, professional and economic life of their communities.

Hindu traditions emphasize enduring values of peace, compassion, service, respect and the importance of living in harmony with others, while recognizing the diversity of beliefs, customs and practices within Hinduism. Hindu heritage is celebrated through generations of art, literature, music, dance, philosophy, yoga and cultural traditions, including festivals such as Diwali, the Festival of Lights, which symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

“Hindu Americans have enriched the Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills through their dedication to education, entrepreneurship, volunteerism, charitable service, cultural preservation, and active participation in community life,” the proclamation states.

The proclamation describes Hindu Heritage Month as an opportunity to recognize the history, achievements, traditions and contributions of Hindu Americans while encouraging greater cultural understanding, mutual respect and appreciation for the diversity that strengthens the community. It also affirms the township’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage, sharing traditions with future generations and celebrating the many backgrounds and experiences that contribute to the character and vitality of Parsippany.

In the proclamation, Mayor Desai encourages all residents to join in recognizing and celebrating the rich history, cultural traditions, achievements and lasting contributions of Hindu Americans while promoting unity, mutual respect and appreciation for the diversity that makes the community a welcoming place for all.
