Kiwanis Club installs 2015-2016 officers
PARSIPPANY — The Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany recently installed its officers for 2015-2016 at an event held at Empire Diner, 1315 Route 46.
The new officers are President Connie Keller; President-Elect Greg Elbin; Vice President Frank Cahill; Secretary Karen Gajewski; Treasurer Steve Dickens and Immediate Past President/Foundation President Mimi Letts.
Directors include Robert Keller, Carol Tiesi, Karen DeChristopher, Joyce Garrow and Ron Orthwein.
Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany was formed on December 5, 1991 with a roster of 46 original charter members. The club was chartered in February 1992. Charter members included Jayne Beline, Frank Cahill, Margaret Cerbo, Nicolas Cerbo, Karen Gajewski, Harold Gantert, Barbara Ievoli, Ronda Kron, Michael Luther, James Mechtel, Jeanne O’Donnell, Frank Priore, Philip Santiago, Dr. Joseph Weisberg among others.
The first meeting was held at Concord Place (now Fairfield Inn & Suites Parsippany) and two years later the meetings were changed to Empire Diner.
The original board consisted of F. Houston Taylor, President; James Mechtel, President elect; Ronda Kron, Vice-President; Karen Gajewski, Secretary; Mark Wiener, Treasurer; and Directors Dr. Joseph Weisberg, Joe Linfante, James Carabello, Mary Lynn Kaprel, Kelly Stratmore, Marion Clark and Richard Epstein.
Other Presidents included Ronda Kron (1994-1995), Dr. Joseph Weisberg (1995-1996 and 2004-2005), Karen Gajewski (1997-1998), Jayne Beline (1999-2000), Michael Mulhaul (2002-2003), Robbie Furman (2003-2004), Doreen Breenan (2005-2006), Joyce Garrow (2006-2007), Gordon Meth (2008-2009), Joseph O’Neill (2009-2010), Paul Philipps (2010-2011), Robert Keller (2011-2012), Davey Willans (2012-2013), Carol Tiesi (2013-2014) and more recently Mimi Letts (2014-2015).

The Club formed a Foundation, on June 3, 2004, to handle all the Service Funds raised for our programs and projects. It is a 501(C)3 account and only covers the Fundraisers. The Administrative account is still handled by the Club. These two accounts are kept separate by the Laws of Kiwanis International. The Foundation is composed of the same Officers and Directors as the Club but with a change in position and voting power.

PARSIPPANY — The Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills is providing a safe and fun place for Parsippany children to “Trick or Treat,” on Friday, October 30 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The children will go trunk to trunk instead of door to door! Decorate your car and join in the fun!
You can participate by bringing Halloween treats and parking your decorated vehicle at Veterans Park. (located at the corner of Vail Road and Route 46 eastbound).
Vehicles must be in place no later than 3:45 p.m.

Furnishing Solutions Celebrates Third Anniversary
PARSIPPANY — Homeless Solutions, Inc. (HSI) is happy to announce that Furnishing Solutions, our upscale resale furnishing and clothing store, celebrated its Third Anniversary on Saturday, October 10 with a special event held at the store. There were refreshments, a DJ, and a 20% store-wide sale – all enjoyed by the crowd of shoppers, friends and well-wishers. As always, all proceeds from Furnishing Solutions benefit Homeless Solutions programs and services.
Future Furnishing Solutions events include Chalk Painting for Furniture workshops on October 30 and November 6, a Holiday Appetizer Chef Event on December 3, and an Antiques Road Show in January 2016. Par Hills defeats High Point 35 to 7 in Homecoming Game
PARSIPPANY — The Parsippany Hills High School Varsity Football team beat High Point 35-7 on Saturday, October 10 in their Homecoming Game, where many alumni paid a visit to the football field.
Sophomore Quarterback Nick Verducci (#2) connected with Senior Alex Lerman (#16) three times for touchdown passes in the first half to lead Parsippany Hills to a 35-7 win over High Point.
Verducci finished with 243 yards on 11-for-15 passing, while Lerman caught scoring passes of 21, 75 and 6 yards. Wilson Done and James Bedoya tacked on rushing TDs in the fourth quarter to cap Parsippany Hills’ scoring.
Done scored from the 1-yard line, while Bedoya rushed 40 yards for his score.
High Point scored on a 2-yard run from Gavin Hunsicker.

Two males had Heroin, Crack, Oxy at Vacant River Road House
PARSIPPANY — Parsippany-Troy Hills Patrolmen J. Hughes and E. Elston responded to 146 River Road for a report of suspicious people inside an uninhabited residence, at 8:21 p.m. on Saturday, October 3.
According to Patrolman Brian Conover, upon their arrival they found a blue 4-door Hyundai Elantra occupied by two individuals. The driver, Waleed Tillawi, 35, Lake Hiawatha and the passenger, later identified as Frederick Trautvetter IV, 35, Boonton inside the vehicle.
Mr. Trautvetter initially gave multiple false birthdates along with a false name to the Officers.
After positively identifying Mr. Trautvetter, an active warrant from Newark was found. Patrolman E. Elston advised Mr. Trautvevetter that he was under arrest for the outstanding warrant, at which time a brief struggle ensued.
The officers placed were able to place him into custody, without further incident.
During the course of the arrest, he was found to be in possession of three pills suspected to be Oxycodone, a small cellophane wrap containing suspected crack cocaine, along with other drug paraphernalia.
Patrol Sgt. A. Keiser and Patrolman A. Clark also arrived on scene to assist in the investigation.
At which time Mr. Tillawi was placed under arrest for being under the influence of narcotics. While being processed at Parsippany Police Headquarters Mr. Tillawi was found to be in possession of 13 wax folds suspected to be heroin.
Mr. Tillawi was charged with Possession of a Controlled and Dangerous Substance (Suspected Heroin); Use or Under the Influence of a Controlled and Dangerous Substance.
Mr. Trautvetter was charged with two Counts of Possession of a Controlled and Dangerous Substance (Suspected Crack Cocaine and Oxycodone), Resisting Arrest, Hindering Apprehension and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Editors Note: A complaint or a charge is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until he or she is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Theft of Motor Vehicle parts at Arlington Plaza
PARSIPPANY — Parsippany-Troy Hills Patrol Sergeant M. LaManna and Patrolman C. Deloatch responded to the Arlington Plaza commuter lot for a report of stolen motor vehicle parts.
Upon their arrival they spoke to the victim who stated between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, unknown actor(s) smashed the driver’s side rear window of her red 4-door 2012 Toyota Camry.
The unknown actor(s) then stolen the entire passenger rear door from the vehicle. Nothing else appeared to be stolen from the vehicle.
This incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Parsippany-Troy Hills Investigative Division at (973) 263-4313.
Burglary to Motor Vehicle at Days Inn
PARSIPPANY — Parsippany-Troy Hills Patrolman. J. Papienuk responded to the Days Inn on October 7 for a report of a burglary to motor vehicle, according to Patrolman Brian Conover. Days Inn is located at 3159 Route 46 East.
Upon his arrival he spoke to the victim who stated between the evening of Wednesday, October 7 and morning on Thursday, October 8 unknown actor(s) entered her 2003 Honda Accord through an unlocked door.
The victim stated sunglasses and eyeglasses were stolen from the vehicle. This incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Investigative Division at (973) 263-4313.

Woman’s Club to hold October meeting
PARSIPPANY — The Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills will meet on Monday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lake Parsippany Rescue & Recovery Building, 100 Centerton Drive.
The club is a great group of women of all ages and walks of life committed to volunteerism and service to the community. After a short business meeting, author Shelia Brodhead will give a presentation on Salem Witches – Myth and Reality. A social time and refreshments follows. All are welcome to the General Meeting.

PHHS Class 1975 celebrates 40 year reunion
PARSIPPANY — Parsippany Hills High School Class of 1975 celebrated its 40th year class reunion starting with a meet and greet on Friday, October 9, at the Parsippany Sheraton Hotel.
Then on Saturday, October 10 the group attended Parsippany Hills High School football game vs. High Point. The Vikings got to show off by beating High Point 35 to 7.
Then the party continued to the Parsippany Elks where about 125 classmates met up.
1975 Graduate Frank Neglia said “It was a great time. Many enjoyed catching up on the last 40 years and speaking about their children and grandchildren. Very enjoyable. It was neat to see everyone after so long.”

Dr. David Serratelli earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Rutgers’ University School of Dental Medicine in 2014. Letter to the editor: Dr. Seitz: how could Parsippany be so lucky?
Dear Editor:
In response to an article “Seitz Sighting” and the question of the return of the poster boy for greed?
I can only say, how could Parsippany be so lucky?
Dr. Seitz lead this district well for many years. So well in fact, we were thrilled to quickly negotiate a fair equitable contract to retain him for another five years.
The poster boy for greed, I think not, just a good target for someone laying the ground work to mount a Presidential campaign and trying to deflect from his own backyard. (Seitz was an issue supposedly at $220,565 but Mendam’s super where Christies children would go if he be believed in public vs. private education was making $206,237 … both above the $165,000 not yet enacted cap).
LeRoy Seitz is no doubt a poster boy.
He is theposter boy for believing in high quality public education raising the bar for our children. During the Seitz administration our district saw some of our highest ranks of NJ school (even better than today)
He is the poster boy for moving a district forward with initiates in technology and education. (think Ipad initiatives, whiteboard, parent portals and more)
He is the poster boy for mutual respect, something we witnessed often between him, teachers, parents and the community (Look at the great relationships witnessed with the teachers union and the ParTroy Council of PTAs.)
We have had a lot of turmoil under two leads who walked in and pulled our district apart before learning our strengths and weaknesses. Who better to put us back together than someone who knows us well?
Is he perfect? Definitely not. Look in the mirror, most of us are not. He is human and always did things with pure motivates of the best for all of the children of Parsippany.
He is role model we would be lucky to have for our students.
On news of the “Seitz sighting” I thought to myself, is this man crazy for considering coming back here. Probably a little but which of us isn’t. He’s crazy for our children and our district, really what more could we want?

YMCA holds local Chamber of Commerce Networking
MOUNTAIN LAKES — The Lakeland Hills Family YMCA, 100 Fanny Road, Mountain Lakes held a “Local Chamber of Commerce Networking Night” on Wednesday, October 7.
The event was sponsored by Titan Energy New England.
The Parsippany Area Chamber of Commerce, Boonton Main Street, Denville Chamber of Commerce and Montville Chamber of Commerce members and guests were invited to this free event.
Community Relations Director, Rosemary Linder Day, introduced the members of the audience and explained the event purpose. YMCA CEO Vik Joganow also spoke about the efforts and programs offered at the YMCA.
Parsippany Area Chamber of Commerce President Robert Peluso spoke to the group about the progress of the chamber, our events and programs offered. Among his discussion was the “Greater Parsippany Rewards Program” (GPR) which is offered free to Parsippany merchants to participate. The GPR is a discount card for residents and chamber members to be used at Parsippany merchants such as Gourmet Cafe, Baldwin Pizza, Pure Restaurant, Kabab Paradise, Jersey Mike’s Subs to name a few. He also discuss the “Staples Small Business Showcase” which is a program for PACC members to have a display table inside Staples to promote their business.

Halloween Story Contest for our young readers
PARSIPPANY — Trick-or-treating is less than a month away and that means it’s time for Parsippany Focus’ Halloween story contest for young writers.
Here’s how it works: The contest is open to students throughout Parsippany in kindergarten through grade 12. Young authors will provide their own original halloween story. Students are encouraged to include an illustration for their stories.
A team of Focus editors will select the winners. Winning writers will receive a $25.00 gift card, have their stories printed in Parsippany Focus on October 31 and have the chance to read their story for a video on parsippanyfocus.com and receive a lunch for you the winner and his/her parents at a local Parsippany restaurant.
Teachers are encouraged to use the contest as a class writing assignment. Be sure to include your contact information (email and phone number) so we can notify winners.
The deadline for submissions in 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 23.
All stories must be submitted typed with photos attached including name, email address and phone number and sent to news@parsippanyfocus.com. Include “Halloween Story” in the subject line.
Halloween contest official rules
1. The contest is open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
2. All entries must be the original work of the student and no longer than 300 words.
4. Students are encouraged to submit illustrations with their stories. While the artwork will not be judged, some drawings will appear in an online gallery. Illustrations should be submitted on a separate piece of paper.
5. All entries and pictures should include the student’s name, age, school and grade.
6. Deadline for entries is 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 23.
7. All stories must be submitted typed with photos attached including Name, email address and phone number and sent to news@parsippanyfocus.com. Include“Halloween Story” in the subject line. If drawing can’t be attached they can be mailed separately to Parsippany Focus, Post Office Box 6245, Parsippany, New Jersey 07054.

Northvail Participates in its 6th Annual Junior Achievement Day
PARSIPPANY — Students at Northvail Elementary School recently had the opportunity to participate in a Junior Achievement Day. The program included kindergarten through fifth grade classes. According to Junior Achievement, the program is a partnership between business and educators to bring the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential and preparing them for the world of work.
At Northvail, approximately 34 volunteers from New Jersey Manufacturer’s Insurance Company spent the day teaching JA lessons and engaging students. The lessons included: Ourselves, Our Families, Our Community, Our City, Our Region and Our Nation. Each grade level received different age-specific curriculum lessons that were fun and interactive and allowed volunteers to share their experiences with students giving them a first-hand perspective of today’s business world. The dynamic class discussion promoted stronger critical thinking, decision-making and communication skills in students.
Principal Jeff Martens at Northvail, helped organize the event along with Alicia Fusco, Senior Director of the Junior Achievement program, and Cindy Berger and Pat Hartpence, Lead Coordinators from NJM.
