MORRIS COUNTY โ€” Four people were taken to Morristown Medical Center following a three-vehicle crash on Ridgedale Avenue at Wing Drive in Hanover Township at 1:25 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29.

According to the police report, Vehicle 1 (V1 in the diagram), a 2024 Toyota driven by Vladimir Lilov, 78, of Parsippany, was traveling north in the left lane of Ridgedale Avenue. Vehicle 2 (V2), a 2009 Nissan Maxima driven by Kayla S. Howard-Maple, 33, of Irvington, was turning left onto Wing Drive from the northbound left lane. Vehicle 3 (V3), a 2025 BMW X1 driven by Jody Toth, 52, of Morristown, was traveling south in the left lane of Ridgedale Avenue.

Lilov told police the front bumper of his Toyota struck the driver side rear tire and quarter panel of the Nissan. He said that while trying to avoid the Nissan, his vehicle crossed the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic, where its front bumper struck the front bumper of the BMW. The diagram shows the Toyota at both points of impact.

Howard-Maple told police she was attempting to make a left turn onto Wing Drive when the rear of her vehicle was struck. Toth told police she was going straight when her vehicle was struck head-on by the Toyota.

Six people were injured in the crash. Lilov and his three passengers โ€” an 80-year-old man, a 63-year-old woman and a 78-year-old man โ€” were transported to Morristown Medical Center.

Hanover Township Police Officer Emmanuel Malasig determined the crash was caused by Lilov following too closely and failing to maintain his lane. Lilov was charged with:

  • Careless Driving (N.J.S.A. 39:4-97)
  • Failure to Maintain Lane (N.J.S.A. 39:4-88)

All three vehicles were towed from the scene by T and J Towing. Sergeant Paul Gundersdorf reviewed the report.

Editor’s Note: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
