PARSIPPANY โ€” Township officials, civic groups and community members will gather at Smith Field on Sunday, August 2, at 1:00 p.m. to honor the memory of Raoul Wallenberg on the anniversary of his birth.

Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat, is credited with saving tens of thousands of Jews in Budapest during the Holocaust by issuing protective passports and sheltering refugees under Swedish diplomatic protection. He was later honored by an Act of Congress, which designated him an honorary citizen of the United States.

Mayor Pulkit Desai and members of the Parsippany-Troy Hills Town Council are expected to join the ceremony, along with representatives of state and national government, religious leaders, members of the Morris County Human Relations Commission, and other civic leaders.

Special guests at the event will include winners of the Raoul Wallenberg Courage and Compassion Scholarship, awarded to students from Parsippany High School and Parsippany Hills High School.

The event is open to the public.
