PARSIPPANY โ€” The Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Council approved the surrender and retirement of the liquor license held by Embassy Suites at its meeting on Tuesday, October 20.

Resolution R2026-235 approves the surrender of Plenary Retail Consumption License No. 1429-36-050-003, held by Promus Hotel Services, Inc., doing business as Embassy Suites.

The company informed the township by letter dated Wednesday, September 16, that it was surrendering the license for retirement, effective immediately. The licensee has turned in its license certificate to the township.

The Township Administrator reviewed the matter and accepted the surrender. The resolution authorizes the Township Administrator and/or Township Attorney to take all steps necessary to complete the surrender and retirement of the license.

The Township Clerk was directed to forward a copy of the resolution to the attorney for Promus Hotel Services after its passage.

The surrender follows the closing of the Embassy Suites by Hilton hotel at 909 Parsippany Boulevard. In May, the hotel filed a notice with the state under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act that it would lay off 54 employees by August 14. By August, signage had been removed from the building and the property’s roadside sign was left blank. Click here to read the previous story.

The property’s owner, 909-Parsippany Boulevard LLC, along with the Kushner Real Estate Group, has proposed converting the nearly 300-room hotel into a residential building with up to 210 units under the township’s affordable housing plan. Of those units, 49 would be set aside as affordable housing under the township’s Fourth Round Housing Element and Fair Share Plan.

The hotel was a longtime community host. For more than three decades it held its annual “Trick or Suite” Halloween event for students of P.G. Chambers School, featuring decorated hotel suites and candy giveaways from local businesses. Last October marked the event’s 31st year.

A plenary retail consumption license allows a business to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, such as at a hotel bar or restaurant. A retired license is not transferred to a new owner.
