PARSIPPANY — The Township Council has introduced an ordinance that would prohibit data centers exceeding 10 megawatts of electrical capacity in all Parsippany zoning districts.

The proposal follows weeks of discussion and public input regarding large-scale and hyperscale data centers, particularly concerns surrounding electricity demand, water use, noise, and their potential impact on surrounding communities. The ordinance was introduced unanimously and is scheduled to return for a public hearing and possible final action on Tuesday, November 24.

Council members also made clear that additional concerns raised by residents, including generator use, noise, lighting, and water consumption, can continue to be reviewed as the ordinance moves through the public process.
