PARSIPPANY — A powerful weather system is forecast to bring heavy rain, strong winds and the potential for flooding to northern New Jersey beginning Saturday, September 26, and continuing into Sunday, September 27. Parsippany residents are urged to prepare now, before conditions worsen.
Low-lying neighborhoods along the Rockaway River that have flooded during past storms may be especially vulnerable to rising water and poor drainage. Residents in flood-prone areas should move vehicles to higher ground, clear leaves and debris from storm drains and gutters near their homes, and secure outdoor furniture, trash cans and other loose items that strong winds could blow around.
Residents should also charge cell phones and backup batteries, keep flashlights and fresh batteries on hand, and stock up on water, nonperishable food and any needed medications in case of power outages.

For issues that are not emergencies, such as downed tree limbs that are not blocking a roadway or minor flooding concerns, residents can call the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department at (973) 263-4300.
To report a power outage or downed wires, call Jersey Central Power and Light at (888) 544-4877. Never approach or touch a downed wire. Always assume it is live.
Safety Reminders
Never drive or walk through flooded roadways. Just six inches of moving water can knock a person down, and a foot of water can carry away a vehicle. If a road is barricaded, turn around.
Residents using generators should operate them outdoors only, well away from windows, doors and vents, to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
