PARSIPPANYย โ€”ย The official “Law and Order” Tour visited Parsippany on Thursday, September 26.

Their first Parsippany stop was at the Empire Diner where they talked to diners about the upcoming election in November.

Their next stop was in Lake Hiawatha where they had the opportunity to meet the new business owner of “Every Dollar Store” Mehul Shah.ย  After a few stops in some of the other stores in the shopping center, they ventured into the Spa Restaurant where they met Lucille Link who was celebrating her birthday. Joining Lucille was her son Steven, and daughter Gail Napolitano and friend Maureen McDermott.

Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce is a distinguished legislator with extensive local and state government experience, an unparalleled behind-the-scenes perspective on government functions, and a long history of problem solving through bipartisanship cooperation.

DeCroce serves on several legislative committees and commissions including: NJ Legislative Select Oversight into Murphy Administration Hiring Practices, Transportation & Independent Authorities, the Joint Committee on Public Schools, Banking and Insurance, Science & Technology, Pre-trial Services Review Commission, the Intergovernmental Relations Commission, and the Manufacturing Caucus.

She is member of both the Parsippany-Troy Hills Satellite Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany, and she has received numerous awards, including: The NJ Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Legislator of the Year; Defender of the Taxpayer Award, for her advocacy of common-sense measures to reduce taxes and create jobs; two time finalist Leading Women Entrepreneur Award; and was recognized by the Displaced Homemakers Network of New Jersey.

Prior to serving in the New Jersey State Legislature, DeCroce served as Deputy Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs in the Administration of Governor Chris Christie. While there, she authored the Best Practices for Municipalities, which became a nationally recognized, statewide model for identifying efficiencies in local government to reduce property taxes.

DeCroce began her government service as a Councilwoman in Mine Hill. She went on to serve as Municipal Clerk, Deputy Township Manager and Planning Board Member in Roxbury.ย  She later served 11 years on the Board of Adjustment in Parsippany, and she served on the Board of Trustees for the New Jersey Crime Victimsโ€™ Law Center.

DeCroce also served as the first Chairwoman of the Morris County Joint Insurance Fund, an organization of 40 municipalities, where she achieved savings for the membership through shared services and negotiated healthcare.

DeCroce brings business-savvy and a small business perspective to the Legislature as former President and Owner of ERA Gallo & DeCroce Realtors, a real estate firm in Morris County for over forty-six years; and as Vice President of ABL Holdings, a home construction company. She has been declared one of the 50 Best Women in Business by NJBIZ and a NJ Monthly finalist for Leading Women Entrepreneur and Business Owner.

In addition, DeCroce was selected to participate in The Emerging Leaders Program at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business Administration.

DeCroce resides in Parsippany and enjoys spending time with her two sons and four grandchildren.

James Gannon is re-election for his second term as Morris County Sheriff, and BettyLou DeCroce is seeking re-election to the 26th Congressional District. She has served in the New Jersey General Assembly since 2012, where she has represented the 26th Legislative District after being appointed to fill the seat following the death of her husband, Alexย DeCroce.

Jim grew up in Boonton Township in an Irish and Polish Catholic family with two brothers and one sister, who were all raised by his father, mother and grandmother.ย  His passion for law enforcement came from his father, who was a New York City Police Detective.ย  Gannon graduated Boonton High School where he played sports and also was a member of the Boonton Township Fire Service.

Gannon earned his Associateโ€™s degree in Law Enforcement from County College of Morris, and then his Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from William Paterson University.ย  After graduation, Gannon started out as a Patrolman in his hometown of Boonton Township, and then Boonton, followed by service as Deputy Chief of Investigations at the Morris County Prosecutorโ€™s Office, the FBIโ€™s elite Joint Terrorism Task Force and Morris County-based Novartis Pharmaceuticals, where he retired as the Global Head of Security Risk.

Along the way, Gannon graduated from the FBI National Academy, earned a Certificate in Supervisory Management from Rutgers and a Masters of Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

During his decorated, 33-year career in law enforcement and security, Gannon served as Commander of the FuncoLand Homicide Task Force and the Walter Contreras Homicide Task Force, formed the Morris County Cold Case Unit, co-authored the โ€œMorris County Counter-Terrorism Task Force Manual,โ€ and has lectured and trained fellow professionals, and conducted investigations, in places like Russia, Ukraine, South Africa, Hungary, Thailand and Uzbekistan, uniquely preparing him for the day-to-day battle to protect Morris County citizens from terror attacks and other crimes.

In addition to his professional career in law enforcement and security, Gannon has given back to the surrounding communities in other ways, including as current President of the 200 Club of Morris County, Adjunct Professor at Centenary College, Life Member of the New Jersey State PBA #327, Co-Founder of the Morris County Chapter of the Emerald Society of the State of New Jersey, and as a Drum Major in the Police Pipes & Drums of Morris County to name just a few.

Gannon was married to his wife, Lisa, for 26 years before losing her in 2010 after a courageous battle against Multiple Sclerosis.ย  Jim and Lisa had one daughter, Kate who, along with her husband Matt, are parents to son Luca and a new addition, daughter. Jim is a lifelong resident of Morris County and lives in Boonton.

Parsippany man charged with DWI after striking telephone pole

PARSIPPANY โ€” The driver, identified as James Duva, 54, told the officer he swerved to avoid hitting a deer. The officer suspected Duva was intoxicated and asked him to step out of his vehicle to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed, according to police.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, September 23, a Sparta Police Officer was patrolling Route 181 in the area of Mara Boulevard when she observed a black Ford that was off the roadway and into a telephone pole. She observed a male attempting to restart the vehicle, according to police reports.

Duva was charged with driving while under the influence, driving while suspended, careless driving, unlicensed driver and a criminal charge of operating a vehicle with a suspended license due to a prior driving while intoxicated charge.

 

 

Duva was placed under arrest for drunken driving and transported to police headquarters for processing. His vehicle was removed from the woods and impounded.

After completion of breath testing, Duva was found to have warrants out of Parsippany for $500 and Sparta for $680. He was given new dates for the warrants and for the new charges.

After complaining of shoulder pain, Duva requested transport to Newton Medical Center. He was released to his son at the hospital.

CCM to Hold Free Cybersecurity Workshops and Events

MORRIS COUNTY โ€” The CCM Center for Cyber Security, Department of Information Technologies and Cyber Security Club at County College of Morris (CCM) will be offering workshops and other events in October as part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a national effort to help everyone stay protected whenever and however they connect.
The overarching theme for 2019 is, โ€œOwn IT. Secure IT. Protect IT.โ€ and CCM is proud to be a champion and support this online safety and education initiative.

All CCM National Cybersecurity Awareness Month events are free and open to the public and take place on the collegeโ€™s campus at 214 Center Grove Road, Randolph.
The kick-off takes place Tuesday, October 1, with hands-on, fun activities in the Center for Cyber Security in Emeriti Hall, Room 217, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A session on how to โ€œProtect Your Password 2019 Styleโ€ will be held on Tuesday, October 8, in the Center for Cyber Security, Emeriti Hall, Room 217, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The evening of Wednesday, October 16, will be Cybersecurity Movie Night with a film selected by CCM students. That takes place in the Student Community Center, Davidson Room B, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

A session on virtual private networks, โ€œConnect Safely โ€“ Use a VPN,โ€ will be held on Tuesday, October 29, in the Center for Cyber Security, Emeriti Hall, Room 217, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The closing session will be a Tabletop Cyber Stratego game. Stratego is an old board game using military pieces with the object to “capture the flag” of the other team. Cybersecurity competitions are based on this strategy and outcome. This is a great way to learn more about cyber competitions and about the field of cybersecurity.

CCM is listed as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS). CCM is the first community college in New Jersey to hold that designation. The collegeโ€™s certificate program in Information Security is mapped to NSA and DHS standards. Along with the information security certificate, the Information Technologies department offers degrees in computer science, information technology, game development, media technology and technical studies. Law Enforcement Investigating Bank Robbery in Pequannock

MORRIS COUNTY โ€” Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, Acting Chief of Investigations Christoph Kimker, and Pequannock Township Police Chief Brian C. Spring confirm an active investigation into a bank robbery that occurred this morning in Pequannock.

At approximately 10:43 a.m., law enforcement received a report of a bank robbery that occurred at the Wells Fargo Bank, 523 Route 23, in Pequannock.

The subsequent investigation has revealed that a male entered the bank branch and demanded money. The investigation has revealed that the suspect appears to be an older white male with a black beard, which is possibly fake. He was last seen wearing dark colored pants, a dark colored hooded Adidas sweatshirt with white stripes on the arms, a dark colored ball cap, and glasses.

Numerous law enforcement agencies have responded and are currently investigating this incident, including the Pequannock Police Department, the Morris County Sheriffโ€™s Office Crime Scene Investigations Unit, the Morris County Prosecutorโ€™s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident, including the identity of this male, is urged to call the Morris County Prosecutorโ€™s Office โ€“ Major Crimes Unit at (973) 285-6200 or the Pequannock Police Department at (973) 835-1700.

PHHS Field Hockey held “Stick it to Cancer” gold out game

PARSIPPANYย โ€” The Parsippany Hills Field Hockey team held a gold out game to โ€œStick it to Cancerโ€ on Monday, September 23.ย The team invited four area pediatric warriors/cancer survivors, Sean Ries, Hannah Cerullo, Peyton Zitelli, and Emma Wyman to join the team as honorary captains.

The team, dawned in gold socks and gold shirts, not only helped raise awareness, but also helped raised $2,013 for the Childrenโ€™s Brain Tumor Family Foundation.

Since its inceptionย in 2015, the Childrenโ€™s Brain Tumor Family Foundation has donated over $500,000 to pediatric cancer research.

Thank you to everyone who made this evening possible. So much love and support from our amazing community made for a wonderful night for all.

A victory for our team on the field and a bigger victory off the field by raising awareness. Be The Hope. Believe There Is Hope For A Cure.

PARSIPPANYย โ€”ย Furry, fluffy, feathered, or fuzzy โ€“ all are welcome to join the congregation of St. Gregoryโ€™s Episcopal Church on Sunday, October 6 at 5:00 p.m. for the annual blessing of Animals Liturgy celebrating the life of St. Francis who is remembered as having a deep appreciation for all of creation and a special bond with animals.

All Godโ€™s creatures are welcome however, for safety concerns, participants are asked to bring their pets leashed or caged.ย  Following the liturgy, refreshments are provided as an opportunity for people and pets socialize.

CCM to Hold Fall Open House Start Right and Finish Strong

MORRIS COUNTY โ€” County College of Morris (CCM) will hold its Fall Open House on Saturday, October 19, for students and their parents, and others interested in advancing their education and career opportunities.

Two sessions will be held, starting in the Dragonetti Auditorium located in the Student Community Center, 214 Center Grove Road, Randolph. The first session begins at 10:00 a.m. and the second at noon. Registration is required to ensure participants can learn about the academic programs that interest them the most. Open House participants will be able to learn about CCMโ€™s 50 associate degrees and certificate and other professional development programs, financial aid, career opportunities, athletics, student groups and more.

Students at CCM, considered one of the stateโ€™s best community colleges, are taught by a nationally recognized faculty committed to student success. MORRIS COUNTY โ€” Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) and Senator Steven Oroho (R-24) joined Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-3) for a boat tour of Lake Hopatcong today to gain a first-hand understanding of the blue-green algae blooms that caused the lake and others across New Jersey to be closed for recreation for much of the summer.

After the tour, Pennacchio and Oroho issued the following statement:

โ€œWe received a commitment from the Senate President that Lake Hopatcong, Greenwood Lake, and all impacted New Jersey lakes would get much-needed help.

โ€œFurther, we will be meeting with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to get badly needed answers to some important questions.

โ€œWe are committed to working together to ensure these lakes are never closed again.โ€

Man Charged with Environmental Crimes in Florham Park

MORRIS COUNTY โ€” Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, Morris County Prosecutorโ€™s Office Acting Chief of Investigations Christoph Kimker, and Florham Park Chief of Police Joseph J. Orlando announce the arrest of Robert Luis Benitez, 46, Union, on charges stemming from the improper disposal of construction debris in an area off Route 24, in Florham Park.

It is alleged that Benitez, the owner of RLB Construction & Investments, improperly disposed of a variety of materials including exterior siding, paint cans, tile, boxes, flooring and other related materials.

The Morris County Prosecutorโ€™s Office Fire/Environmental Unit, along with the Florham Park Department of Public Works, coordinated and executed the cleanup, which resulted in over 10 cubic yards and two tons of waste.

The investigation revealed that the area is a Wetland Transition Zone within the Freshwater Wetlands Protection Act, as well as a Riparian Zone within the Flood Hazard Area Control Act.

Benitez is charged with one count of Unlawful Disposal or Transportation of Solid Waste, one count of Violation of the Freshwater Protection Act, and one count of Improper Discharge in Violation of the Flood Hazard Area Control Act; all crimes of the third degree. He was released pending a first appearance in court.

Prosecutor Knapp thanks the Florham Park Police Department, the Florham Park Department of Public Works, the Morris County Office of Health Management, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the Union Township Police Department, and the Morris County Prosecutorโ€™s Office Fire/Environmental Unit, all of whom participated in this investigation.

PARSIPPANYย โ€” Mayor Michael Soriano presented a proclamation celebrating the 30th Anniversary of The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms on Tuesday, September 17 at the Township Council meeting.

In 1989,ย  The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, was entrusted by the Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills with the preservation and interpretation of Craftsman Farms, the early 20th century country estate of Gustav Stickley.

The Stickley Museumย atย Craftsman Farmsย is a 30-acre country estate of the early 20th-century designer, Gustav Stickley, is a historic house museum andย National Historic Landmark.

Mark your calendars and get ready to be a part of a grand celebration! Parsippanyโ€™s Fall Festival is back

PARSIPPANY โ€” Parsippany-Troy Hills Annual 18th Fall Festival will take place on North Beverwyck Road, onย Sunday, September 22, between 12:00 Noon and 5:00 p.m. Due to the festival, we will have numerous road closures, detours, and parking restrictions.

  • The Commuter lot on Minnehaha Boulevard and North Beverwyck Road will closed between 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22. Any vehicles present in the parking lot will be towed at the owner’s expense.
  • From approximately 8:30 a.m. to approximately 7:00 p.m. North Beverwyck Road will be closed between Vail Road and Longview Avenue.
  • A Shuttle will be running between the Festival and the Smith Field parking lot. If needed the PAL parking lot will also be used.
โ€ข DOGS, CIVILIAN DRONES, BIKES, FIREWORKS, ROLLER BLADES/SKATES, SKATEBOARDS ETC. ARE NOT PERMITTED
โ€ข North Beverwyck Road (from Vail Road through Longview Avenue) will be closed to all traffic from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 6:00 p.m. Traffic will be detoured around the area.
โ€ข Anyone needing access to Foodtown should take Rockaway Place to Condit Avenue to Crescent Drive to Claudine Terrace. Signs will be posted.

A shuttle will run from the Smith Field parking lot, located at Route 46 East and Baldwin Road, to the Festival.

The following intersections on North Beverwyck Road will be blocked:

Iroquois Avenue
Chesapeake Avenue
Hiawatha Boulevard
Minnehaha Boulevard

Parsippany Holds Dedication for Glenn โ€œBig Guyโ€ Foesel

PARSIPPANY โ€” A dedication program was held at Knoll Country Club, on Wednesday, September 18 in memory of Golf Operations Manager Glenn Foesel.

Speaking during the event was Mayor Michael Soriano, Councilman Michael dePierro, Daniel Foesel and Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Chief Andrew Miller.

Glenn was born in Glen Ridge and grew up in Parsippany for 25 years before moving to Lincoln Park.

Glenn worked as a Corrections Officer for the Morris County Sheriffโ€™s Office from June 1984 until November 1987. After that he worked as a Police Officer for the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department for many years before retiring in 2011. After retiring, Glenn enjoyed working as the Golf Operations Manager at the Knoll Country Club.
