PARSIPPANY โ€” The Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany collected 15 shopping carts full of food at Parsippany ShopRite on Sunday, November 1, and delivered the donations to the Parsippany Food Pantry on Monday, November 2. The food is valued at an estimated $4,500 or more.

In addition to the food, the club collected more than $600 in cash and gift cards. All of it will be converted into ShopRite gift cards for the families who receive food from the pantry, allowing them to purchase fresh items such as produce, dairy and meat.

“Our community stepped up in a big way, and our Key Club students were there every step of the way,” said Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany President Frank Cahill. “Fifteen carts of food and more than $600 in gift cards will make a real difference for our neighbors who rely on the Food Pantry, especially as we head into the holiday season.”

The club’s collection flyer listed the pantry’s most needed items, including:

  • Pasta sauce, canned tomatoes and canned potatoes
  • Soups such as Campbell’s Chunky and Progresso, plus broth of all types
  • Canned meals including Dinty Moore Stew, Chef Boyardee, canned hash, canned chicken, Spam and Vienna sausage
  • Breakfast items such as cereal, oatmeal, granola bars, Pop-Tarts and shelf stable milk
  • Peanut butter, canned fruit, apple sauce, crackers and snacks
  • Rice, ramen noodles, instant mashed potatoes and Knorr sides
  • Pantry staples such as flour, sugar, oil, ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise
  • Coffee, tea and desserts
  • Supermarket gift cards

The Parsippany Food Pantry accepts these items year-round, and donations are especially needed during the holiday season.
