Hanover Wind Symphony to Showcase Local Talent in Free February Concert

MORRIS COUNTY โ€” The renowned Hanover Wind Symphony (HWS) will shine a spotlight on its own musicians and local composers in a special performance titled โ€œFrom Our Own Backyard,โ€ to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, at Memorial Junior School, 61 Highland Avenue, in the Whippany section of Hanover Township.

โ€œThis concert is our opportunity to celebrate the incredible talent we have not just within our ensemble but throughout North Jersey,โ€ said Matthew Paterno of Parsippany, HWS Music Director. โ€œOur members dedicate so much of themselves to this group, and this is a way to honor that, along with the amazing composers from the region.โ€

The performance will include a mix of solo features and original works. Highlights include:

  • Travis J. Salim of Rockaway Township, a percussionist, composer, and educator, performing a xylophone solo in โ€œLog Cabin Blues.โ€
  • Jason Whitaker of Wayne, featured in Gary D. Ziekโ€™s โ€œConcerto for Tuba and Wind Ensemble.โ€
  • Joshua A. Idio, composer of โ€œGlowing Word.โ€
  • Carolyn Masi of Roxbury, trumpet soloist in Leroy Andersonโ€™s โ€œA Trumpeterโ€™s Lullaby,โ€ performed in memory of longtime HWS member Michael Aleshevich, who passed away in December.
  • Taylor Goodson of Bloomfield, arranger of โ€œLog Cabin Blues.โ€

The program includes:

  • โ€œSalute to the Colorsโ€ by Bert R. Anthony and Karl L. King
  • โ€œGlowing Wordโ€ by Joshua A. Idio
  • โ€œConcerto For Tuba and Wind Ensembleโ€ by Gary D. Ziek
  • โ€œSecond Suite in F for Military Bandโ€ by Gustav Holst
  • โ€œA Trumpeterโ€™s Lullabyโ€ by Leroy Anderson
  • โ€œShenandoahโ€ arranged by Frank Ticheli, conducted by Ayden Khan of Wayne, HWS Associate Music Director
  • โ€œLog Cabin Bluesโ€ by George Hamilton Green, arranged by Taylor Goodson

The concert is free and open to the public. For fans of wind symphony music and local talent, itโ€™s an evening not to be missed.
