Northvail’s Student Council’s Latest Project

PARSIPPANY — The main purpose of Northvail’s Student Council is to develop positive attitudes and to practice good citizenship.  Under the supervision of Mrs. Correia, a fifth grade teacher, the council manages a variety of community service projects throughout the school year such as a food drive, collecting donations for Pennies for Patients, and The Valerie Fund of NJ.

The latest project was for The Animal Alliance of NJ located in Lambertville, which is a nonprofit animal welfare agency, founded in 2001. Every animal at the shelter has been rescued from a perilous situation and many are the victims of neglect or cruelty. The members of the Council organized the collection of 8 large bags of sheets, towels and blankets. These donations are used to line the cages of shelter dogs so that they are a little more comfortable while waiting for their forever home. The students created their own persuasive flyers advertising the drive.

Mrs. Correia stated, “All students are very responsible and are always willing to work hard.” Her commitment to the Student Council represents her willingness to teach students beyond her classroom about honesty, respect, and kindness toward others.
