PARSIPPANY — Morris County Secondary Schools Ice Hockey League, Charette Division leading Parsippany Regional (12-1-2) defeated the River Dell Golden Hawks, 3-1in a very competitive game, Saturday Night at Mennen Arena.
The entire game was back and forth affair without either team gaining a clear advantage. The first penalty of the game called on Marc Farrell on a retaliation of a check by his own net.  River Dell had only 1 scoring chance on the Power Play. The first goal of the game came towards the end of the first period on a 3-on-one break from their own blue line after a turn over by River Dell. The second period started Parsippany’s way as Nick Grinvalds broke in alone on a pass from Anthony Caccalave and scored :42 seconds into the second period. The action continued to be a back and forth affair without either team getting a scoring chance. The game started to turn toward River Dell as Nick Grinvalds was stoned by on a fine low glove save on a breakaway and River Dell brought the puck out of their zone and scored on a goal mouth scramble about :23 seconds later to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Later in the second period, Alex Cavaluzzo, broke in all alone on net and was tripped down, resulting in a penalty shot. On the attempt, Alex, deked right and had the puck roll off his stick as he crossed to his left in front of the River Dell net. Turns out, he made this attempt with a cracked skate blade.
The third period continued to be a back and forth affair without many scoring chances for either team. The final goal of the game was scored by Nick Grinvalds under the right armpit of the River Dell goaltender with 4:42 left in the game. The goal was assisted by Brian Rodriguez. River Dell pulled their goaltender but was unable to amount a threat as Parsippany did not any allow any real scoring chances.
This was a nice rebound effort for Parsippany Regional after getting pounded in a scrimmage game against Tenafly at McKay Park in Englewood on Friday. Brian Rodriguez felt that they had a little more to prove after their loss. Jimmy Calabrese thought it was a good game to get back on their feet. The coaches were juggling lines and it seemed to help with their performance. All the team captains appreciate the fact that Coach Masotti places great emphasis on their work ethic and to give 100% each time they are on the ice. They also seemed to be playing the body a lot more than they had in the past. Rich Martin had at least one nice body check during the game.
Parsippany Regional has a busy schedule coming up. They play a Sparta team that is 8-4 on Monday,
A division game against winless Morris Hills (0-15) on Wednesday and a play an undefeated Madison team (16-0) on Thursday, January 29.
