Recent rumor has it that the Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education has formed an ad hoc committee to reconsider the already rejected idea of turfing the two high school football fields. Recent rumor also has it that the Board ad hoc committee has met with Mayor Barberio to explore that idea.
Reality has it that, in December 2013, Parsippany voters, in resounding fashion, defeated a referendum that called for the expenditure of millions of tax dollars to turf the two high school fields.
Reality also has it that there are growing concerns about the potential link between the carcinogens found in the turf fields and the increasing occurrence of cancer in soccer goalies who play on those fields.
Perhaps the Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education should spend its time to form a much needed ad hoc committee to figure out how to enhance our children’s reading and writing skills and perhaps the Mayor should form an ad hoc committee to determine if the turfed fields at Smith, Veterans and Jannerone Parks are actually safe for the thousands of children who play on them.
After all, shouldn’t the education and safety of our children be our elected officials primary concern?
