PARSIPPANY — Patrol Officers Jeffrey Papienuk, Gerit Tosh and Edward Elston responded to a report of a possible intoxicated male sitting in a white Acura, on Saturday, September 20 at approximately 9:00 a.m.
Upon the Officers’ arrival, they observed a male and vehicle matching the reported description. The Officers approached the vehicle observing a male who appeared to be unconscious in the driver’s seat.
Several attempts to rouse the individual from outside the vehicle were unsuccessful. The Officers gained entry into the unlocked vehicle and could not wake the driver. Emergency Medical Services responded in the event that the individual was experiencing a medical emergency.
Prior to EMS’ arrival, the male, later identified as Mr. Amit Patel, awoke and appeared disoriented. Members of the EMS tended to Mr. Patel who required no further medical attention.
The Officers began to speak with Mr. Patel and after a brief investigation, it was determined that he was intoxicated. Mr. Patel was placed under arrest and transported to the Parsippany Police Department Headquarters where he was processed and released to a family member’s custody. Mr. Patel was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, pending a court appearance.
