Houlihans to open in Parsippany


Renovations has started on the old Blackthorn Restaurant to transform it into a new “Houlihan’s Restaurant and Bar” – American Restaurant

Renovations has started on the interior and exterior of the building. Houlihan’s is anticipated to open early September. Watch Parsippany Focus for updates on the opening.

Blackthorn Restaurant and Irish Pub closed its doors on Wednesday, April 23 after The Parsippany-Troy Hills Council approved a transfer of the liquor license to the company that will operate this Houlihans location.

Currently, the closest Houlihan’s Restaurant and Bar is located at 645 Route 46, Fairfield.

Commercial Realty purchased the building in 2008 from Crow Foody Central, LTD along with the steel structure located behind the restaurant, Bennigans. The steel structured was started in the early 1980s and was completed by Commercial Realty. Recently Commercial Realty moved into the building, now know as 100 IMS Drive and leased 62,000 square feet to IMS Health. (Click here to read related article).

Shortly after Commercial Realty purchased the property, Bennigans parent company S&A Restaurant Corp., a division of Metromedia Restaurant Group, and affiliated companies filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation and closed about 240 company locations, including Parsippany.

Commercial Realty purchased the liquor license from the Bankruptcy Court and then leased the former Bennigan’s restaurant to Blackthorn Restaurant and Irish Pub, in 2010.

In 2012, the Gillespie family, owners of Blackthorn Restaurant and Irish Pub purchased the front building and land from Commercial Realty. Blackthorn Restaurant and Irish Pub closed in April 2014 and has leased the property to Houlihan’s Restaurant.

The Blackthorn Restaurant located at 651 North Michigan Avenue, Kenilworth will remain open.
