Friends of the Library receive proclamation

The Friends of the Library received a proclamation from Mayor James Barberio in celebration of their 30th Anniversary. The proclamation read:

Whereas, the Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization that incorporated in 1984 to raise funds and advocate for Library service in Parsippany; and

Whereas, the Friends, through their fundraising dinners, special sales, grants, book sales, tricky trays and garage sales have raised countless funds.used to purchase library furniture, books and equipment and children’s summer reading programs; and

Whereas, the Friends have sponsored contests to engage the children of Parsippany; and

Whereas, in 2009, the Friends established a successful book store in the Parsippany Community Center, aptly named “the Book Nook”; and

Whereas, the Friends continue to raise thousands of dollars to benefit the Parsippany libraries; an

Whereas, the work of the Friends highlights the fact that our libraries are the centers of learning and intellectual growth within our community connecting library patrons with the thoughts, ideas and intellectual contributions of others from ages past to the present.

Now Therefore I, James R. Barberio, Mayor of the Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills, do hereby congratulate the Friends of the Library on the anniversary of 30 years of dedicated service and do furthermore, urge all citizens to support the Friends and extend gratitude to them for their commitment to enriching our libraries and enhancing our community.

The Friends of the Library, was established in 1984,  is a volunteer, non profit organization. Their membership consists of local residents committed to enhancing library services. The Friends hold fundraising events throughout the year, use the funds to supplement library programs and services and advocate on behalf of the library. A significant percentage of the Friends income comes from membership dues. By signing up for the Friends of the library, you receive a copy of the Friends semi-annual newsletter and invitations to special functions. You can become active in this organization if you choose to do so by noting it on your application form. The Friends are constantly looking for new members, particularly those who are new to the area, can commit to helping with various fundraising projects for two to three hours a month or have a love for the library!
