17 year old and 15 year old Florham Park male juveniles were placed into custody following a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrol Officers Jason Ferreira, Carlos Silva and Michael Sprung at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12.
While Officer Ferreira was on patrol on New Road, he observed a Silver Honda CRV exit the Wawa convenience store without its headlights on.
The vehicle continued South on New Road, driving on the yellow line. Officer Ferreira conducted a motor vehicle stop and while speaking to the 17 year old driver, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
He also observed suspected marijuana on the center console and on the driver’s side floorboard. The driver advised the officers that he threw a bag of marijuana from the vehicle prior to the stop.
Upon speaking to the 15 year old passenger, Officer Ferreira observed additional suspected marijuana and a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana on the floor of the passenger side of the vehicle’s interior. Both juveniles denied ownership of the plastic bag. A scale with suspected marijuana on it was also located on the floor of the rear passenger area and an orange glass pipe with suspected marijuana residue in it in the front console area.
Both juveniles were taken into custody and the vehicle was towed. They were transported to Police Headquarters where the 17year old was issued summonses for Failing to Maintain Lane and Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle. Both juveniles were released to their mothers at Headquarters.
The matter was turned over to Parsippany Police Department’s Youth Services Section for pending charges.
