Paterson driver arrested for DUI; under the influence

policebadgeWhile on Patrol at 12:04 a.m. on Friday, October 11, Officer Alfred Keiser observed a Silver 2000  Pontiac GrandAm traveling South on North Beverwyck Road and stop approximately 20 feet prior to the red traffic signal, with no vehicles in front of it.  Officer Keiser continued to follow the vehicle as it proceeded onto Route 46 East.

He observed the vehicle swerve into the right shoulder and continue to swerve within its lane until Officer Keiser conducted a motor vehicle stop of the vehicle on Route 80 East.

The driver also had a suspended driver’s license and an outstanding warrant from the Creskill Boro Municipal Court in the amount of $1000.00.

Officer Keiser also suspected the driver to be impaired.  After a brief investigation, the driver, who was identified as Hassan Ammar, 27, of Paterson was placed under arrest and searched.

The search incident to arrest resulted in finding a rolled dollar bill with whitish powder substance inside, commonly used to ingest CDS, in Mr. Ammar’s right front pocket. He was transported to Police Headquarters and processed. He was then charged with Possession of Drug Paraphanalia and Use/Influence of Controlled Dangerous Substance and issued Motor Vehicle Summonses for Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, Driving While Suspended, Unregistered Vehicle, Failure to Exhibit a Driver’s License, Failure to Exhibit Proof of Insurance and Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle. Mr. Ammar was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail with no 10% option.
