Muggers Stole Purse, then Knocked Her Over in Lake Hiawatha

policecarOfficers responded at 8:56 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15 to Wenonah Avenue near Lake Shore Drive to investigate a report of a female who had just been assaulted.

Upon the arrival of Officer Robert Smolen, the victim was pointed out by a group of neighbors who came out to aid her when they heard screaming. The victim stated that she was walking on Wenonah Avenue when an unknown actor ran up behind her and grabbed her purse before knocking her to the ground.

She saw the actor from behind fleeing south on Wenonah towards Lake Shore Drive. She described the individual as a male between 5’7” and 5’10”.
He was wearing a light grey hoodie and jeans. Officer Smolen relayed the information to responding units who began to canvass the neighborhood for the suspect with negative results.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Department were requested for tracking and responded with two units. Rockaway Neck Volunteer Ambulance also responded to the area to attend to the victim who had minor injuries. Detectives from the Parsippany Police Department’s Investigative Division responded to the scene to continue with the ongoing investigation.
