Officer Peter Kolln responded to a North Beverwyck Road residence at 9:47 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27 in the Lake Hiawatha section of the township to investigate a report of an assault involving a knife.
Upon his arrival, he spoke with the victim who stated that he was watching a movie in his residence with a couple of guests. He then stated that one of the guests (later identified as Ertac Hurman, 23, Lake Hiawatha) stood up and grabbed $120.00 in cash that was located on a coffee table.
He also picked up a small knife that was in close proximity to the cash. The victim told Officer Kolln that Mr. Hurman placed the knife against the throat of the victim at which time a struggle ensued. When one of the other guests ran into a different room to call 9-1-1, Mr. Hurman fled the residence on foot with the cash.
The victim was treated and transported by Parsippany’s Rockaway Neck First Aid Squad to St. Clare’s Hospital for evaluation. Mr. Hurman was arrested at approx. 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 by Detectives of the Parsippany Police Department’s Investigative Division.
He was processed at Parsippany Police Headquarters before being released pending an appearance in court. He was charged with Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
