Mercedes Hits Black Bear on Route 80

A black bear cub that made its way onto westbound Interstate 80, near milepost 44 (in the vicinity of South Beverwyck Road and Smith Road) in Parsippany was struck and killed after being hit by a Mercedes early Sunday morning, according to New Jersey State Police. The driver of the car was not injured.

State Troopers responded to the scene around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 13 was forced to put the bear down because of the extent of its injuries.

Additional information about the crash was not immediately available. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection plans to dispose of the bear.
