Human Services Police Officer Indicted

Knapp announces that Jamal Hogan, 41, of East Orange, New Jersey, was indicted after an investigation revealed that he allegedly used excessive force upon a patient at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital. On March 6, 2013, Hogan, at the time of the alleged actions, was a Sergeant with the Department of Human Services Police.

Investigation revealed that while responding to an incident in his official capacity as a police officer, defendant allegedly used excessive force with his officially-issued ASP/Baton upon a patient at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital. It is also alleged that the defendant took affirmative steps to hinder the investigation into his unlawful use of force.

Defendant was indicted on two counts of Second Degree Official Misconduct; Second Degree Aggravated Assault; Third Degree Aggravated Assault; Fourth Degree Aggravated Assault; Second Degree Hindering Own Apprehension; Third Degree Hindering Own Apprehension; and Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

The State is represented by Senior Trial Counsel/SDAG John McNamara, Jr.

The defendant is currently released on bail.
